Bush the Hypocrite Gets Another Free Pass from Mainstream Media

At his press conference Thursday, our very sanctimonious, hypocritical President Bush responded to a reporter's question about last week's controversial MoveOn.org "General Betray Us" with:

"I thought that the ad was disgusting. I felt like the ad was an attack, not only on Gen. Petraeus, but on the U.S. military. And I was disappointed that not more leaders in the Democrat Party spoke out strongly against that kind of ad. That leads me to come to this conclusion: that most Democrats are afraid of irritating a left-wing group like MoveOn.org -- are more afraid of irritating them than they are of irritating the United States military. That was a sorry deal. And it's one thing to attack me. It's another thing to attack somebody like Gen. Petraeus."

MoveOn's executive director, Eli Pariser, fired back. "What's disgusting is that the president has more interest in political attacks than developing an exit strategy to get our troops out of Iraq and end this awful war. The president has no credibility on Iraq: He lied repeatedly to the American people to get us into the war. Most Americans oppose the war and want us to get out."

Pariser's only half right. What's really disgusting is how every single reporter from the nation's most prestigious newspapers and radio/TV networks just sat there as Bush did what he does best: bullshit. Not one of them asked the obvious follow up question:

"Mr. President, were you as disgusted by the 2004 Swift Boat ads which vilified Sen. John Kerry and relentlessly disparaged his heroic military service? If so, how come you did not speak out so vociferously about them? And if you weren't, please explain the distinction between the Swift Boat ads--created and funded by your party--and the MoveOn ad?

The members of the press corp have no balls, plain and simple. They are nothing but scared stooges who for some strange reason, despite Bush's abysmal 29% approval rating, still quiver in his presence. I suspect they see him as so irrational and petulant that they don't want to reap his wicked wrath on national TV. So they continue to sit there and let this self-righteous, arrogant liar regurgitate his partisan rhetoric with impunity. That's what's disgusting. A shameful display of cowardice. Under Bush, the free media has, sadly, been neutered.

On another note, we could use your help at The The Adrienne Shelly Foundation. We are a tax-exempt, non-profit organization dedicated in my wife's honor to help carry out her spirit and passion, with the goal of assisting women filmmakers. Adrienne was brutally killed in NYC on November 1, 2006. Through the Foundation, her commitment to filmmaking lives on. We've established scholarships, grants, finishing funds and living stipends at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts/Kanbar Institute of Film; Columbia University; American Film Institute; Women in Film; the Independent Feature Project; the Nantucket Film Festival; and the Sundance Institute.

On November 12 in NYC we will be holding our first annual Fundraising Gala, with a musical performance by Alanis Morissette followed by a celebrity reading of Adrienne's script "The Morgan Stories," featuring Paul Rudd, Edie Falco, Matt Dillon, Ally Sheedy and many others. To learn more about our mission, to make a tax-deductible donation, and to sign up to receive details about the November benefit please visit our website. Every contribution helps preserve Adrienne's legacy, allows us to help others, and creates something positive out of this tragedy.

Adrienne's film "Waitress" opened in theatres May 2nd to rave reviews from the NY Times, LA Times, USA Today, Wall Street Journal, Newsweek, Time, People, Entertainment Weekly, Ebert & Roeper ("Two Thumbs Up"), Leonard Maltin and others, and has so far grossed $19-million domestically and almost $1-million internationally. The DVD will be available in November. It's a truly wonderful film that you're sure to love. A link to the trailer is below. Enjoy.

Don't you feel like you are living in the twilight zone? Why does the Republicans always get their way? I can't help wonder if there is blackmail going on.

The media is right wing and it's getting worse by the day.

I was so pissed at the Dems for voting to shame Move On that I just got done donating to them.

Since I won't give to any of the Dems because they will not allow our votes to count here in Florida because of the erly primary, I'm giving to other causes.

"I thought that the ad was disgusting."

I think YOU are "disgusting," Mr. Bush and belong in-front of The Hague facing charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Too bad the military won't grab you before you slither out of Dodge and head to the safety of the 100,000 acre ranch you bought in Paraguay.

As far as the 22 DINO Dems who voted with the Regugs yesterday, I have all their names and hyperlinks to their senate email on my blog should anyone want to send them some love.

Can we please stop pretending it matters who we vote for?

The US 'Media' has been a creature of the CIA (CIA clearance on all articles and editorial commentary on current controversial issues) since the 1960's and Papa Bush's failed Bay of Pigs exercise. It's reporters are 'Bush League' and rarely use 'spell check'. Its tv reporters never touch on anything more controversial then artichokes!

Bush gets a 'Pass' from most of them because they pity his STUPIDITY and want to keep their jobs. They've become 'sell-outs' and scam artists on whom Edward R. Murrow would BARF!

The US 'media' has been a creature of the CIA since before the 1960's and the Bay of Pigs exercise. Don't forget Truman set the CIA on Operation Ajax to overthrow the Iranian government.

80% of the media donate to the Democrat's. Its public information, look it up.

another inconvenient truth:
The term "democrat" originated as an epithet and referred to 'one who panders to the crude and mindless whims of the masses

A more telling question by the clueless MSM would
have been to ask Bush how disgusted he was by
his 2000 campaign attack ad against John McCain.

Andy, I have never given money to a PAC, but when I saw the outcome of the amendment and saw that my two Arkansas Democratic senators voted "yea" on the amendment, I sent money to MoveOn.org. I know that the headline of the ad rankled some people, but the content was completely accurate.

Why is everyone so afraid of this Administration? As one blogger suggested - is it blackmail? Is it payoff like Armstrong Williams was paid to support "No Child Left Behind"; ( and possibly Tony Blair for supporting the war) or, is it even a more ominous threat which keeps the media and everybody else in line?

And, aside from that we have the lazy American citizens. Civil rights groups will march in droves to Jena; the illegal immigrants will stage huge parades to support their cause; but Americans as a whole will not rise to protest the destruction of our country.

However, I wonder how dangerous it's becoming. Could it be dangerous to write opinons on blogs, even anonymously?

And, what about the tassing of a student for questioning Kerry?

At least one, Dan Rather, is standing up to the corporations that run the networks.

The Decider's job is to catapult the propaganda through General Petraeus as directed by god, speaking through Dick Cheney.

What you saw Bush do at that press conference was a masterpiece of cowardice and duplicity, even for him. He simultanwously stood up to support Gen. Petraeus while hiding behind him politically. Bush has all but abdicated his role as Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces and is letting an army general dictate policy in Iraq, so it's no wonder he feels a need to defend the general. As you so correctly point out, Andy, he should have been equally outraged against the Swift Boat lies in 2004. Bush's hypocrisy is so apparent to anyone with half an intellect!!

Rather than Bush having abdicated, it seems to me Petraeus and other generals have abdicated and are doing Bush's bidding. We don't know how, but Bush does get his way. Even Petraeus wouldn't go so far as to say that we'll be safer in Iraq if we continue with the Bush policy. I guess that will take more coaxing from Bush for the geberal to go that far. ha.

7:32 PM,
Since you obviously know more than Petraeus and other generals, maybe you should throw a few stars on a helmet and save the day. Asshole.

well, not only did the press not ask any of the obvious questions but the Dems didn't ask them either; they voted to condemn the moveon ad!

Democrats can't stand up to MoveOn.org. We all know George Soros has too much money and the Democrats are whores.

Don't believe the condemnation, its the only thing the Democrats have. Besides non-binding statements, what have the Democrats accomplished with the legislative branch that they control? Democrats say Bush should have stopped 9/11 in less time without infringing on the terrorists' civil rights and while ignoring their illegal alien status.

I'm a registered Democrat and this is my non-binding opinion.
