Thank You All For Your Kindness and Support

As many of you now know, my wife, the beautiful, lovely, talented Adrienne Shelly, was brutally murdered in NYC on Nov 1. The events of the past 10 days have been tragic and devastating to me and my family, and it's been the outpouring of love and support from friends and family, and my friends and family in the Blogosphere, that's been a tremendous source of comfort. I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for your concern, kindness and, especially, your memories of Adrienne and how she and her work in film affected you and inspired you. I also want to congratulate you all for helping to change our great nation this week. It's the start of a new day, and now my family must begin anew as well. It will be a long, hard, painful process, but we will make it. And I promise you that the blog will back just as soon as I am ready and able to start writing again. My sincerest, heartfelt thanks to you. Keep up the fight.

I didn't know and I'm sorrier than I can say. I hope that you get through this difficult time with your soul and spirit intact, my problems seem so trivial now.

May good fortune be with you for the rest of your days.

Like many fans, I "fell in love" with Adrienne Shelly many years ago in her Hal Hartley movies, and many of the quirky roles she played. She made me laugh, and IMHO her "spirit" really came through in her characters. From what I've read by people who knew her, this was true.

Perhaps the death of so well known and loved individual will make plain to people the dangers of having so many "unknown persons" in our midsts, and how much this really effects our saftey and security. Thus doing some good in the long run, and saving many others.

My condolences. I never knew her, but I cried for her, her daughter and you all week. God Bless.

Dear Andy,

As with everyone else I saw Adrienne Shelly’s first two movies and thought, finally a unique, talented actress. I couldn’t wait to see what she would do next. When she came to the VIFF to show Sudden Manhattan, I stood in line to watch her movie and to see her in person. I was looking forward in seeing Waitress…such a tragedy. My heart truly goes out to her family, you, her daughter and step children.

When I saw the obit in the "New York Times," I wanted to send you my condolences, but for some mysterious reason AOL.COM has been blocking my e-mail or maybe all e-mail from my provider. I have recently lost two friends to illness, but your loss must be so much greater. My heart goes out to you.

Deepest regrets, I hope you can carry on amicably somehow. I was just in N.Y. area this June for the first time visiting friends as well as the city, I was in general considered braver than the city myself. I had only bookmarked your website weeks before this! oh how life can take a turn so suddenly.

Dear Andy,

I had no idea Adrienne Shelly is your wife. My partner and I live in Upstate and have followed the story of her senseless passing in the papers and on NY1 TV.

There are no words to make sense of such a tragedy -- such a loss exists beyond mere words.

I have blogrolled you for some time now and really appreciate your committment hardwork to Democratic ideals and values.

Please accept my heartfelt condolences to you and to your daughter.

What I've read about you and your wife has resonated with me, deeply. Such lovely people, it seems. I don't often follow tragic news stories. But, to me, this story is about much more than tragedy. It is the story of a couple who brightened the world with their love for and commitment to their work, with their thoughtfulness, and of course, with their young daughter. Keep shining.

I was very sad to read about your beautiful wife's death and the tragedy surrounding it. May God Rest Her Soul. A friend committed suicide a few years ago so everytime I hear about another suicide my heart breaks. It doesn't make this less painfull but I am very glad you went the distance to find out the truth.

What rung true for me was the reaction of the illegal immigrant when a woman made a request of him. His response was violence, agression and anger. I have had this reaction many times from immigrant men in stores, on the street and in the building where I live.

Many tenants in NYC are being harrassed and menaced by the workers their landlords hire. Many times these immigrants do not speak English, can not read or write English and have a history of violence against women in their countries of origin. Furthermore, they have very little real skills but the slumlords don't care because they want decent people to move out so the rents can be raised. I do not know the name of our buildings super. He is surly, rude, unproffessional and does not do routine maintenance chores such as sweeping or mopping the public areas, hallways and stairs. I have had to call the police on him, not once but many times. He is from a former war zone. Why are these people even allowed into our country, let alone being quickly hired by unethical businessmen? They seem to be given jobs faster than native white or black workers.

Have you considered, going to the NYC Council to demand that background checks to be done on supers and building workers? Or for contractors before they are allowed to work in NYC residential or commercial buildings?

Women in NYC are terrified now that it's known a building handyman and illegal immigrant murdered your wife because she dared to make a request. To me it is very clear that this was a hate crime. Your wife is no longer alive because she is a white woman, an American and a professional.

My heart goes out to you. I sincerely hope that you and your daughter find some way to deal with your loss.

Mr. Ostroy, I learned about your wife's death several days ago but only now learned of your blog. If the consolations of a stranger can mean anything at a time like this, let me just say that I am so, so sorry for you, your daughter and both your families, and I wish you strength and, someday, peace. The picture posted on this entry put a lump in my throat because it's from the scene playing in my head since I heard the news: Adrienne's character at the end of Trust, standing there saying a silent goodbye. Again, if it is any consolation at all, part of her will live forever in the hearts of those of us who didn't know her, but knew and loved her work. I wish there were more I could say.

Let us not exploit this tragedy to hate undocumented workers. I employ undocumented immigrants all the time and they are humans too.

Let us not lash out at our fellow Americans, no matter what their "legal" status.

My condolences for your loss.

This is a terrible tale. You and your family and your beloved wife didn't deserve this.

I hope you can find the strength to punish politicians who troll for votes while our borders are left wide open. Do we know the criminal backgrounds of these 20 million "undocumented" people?

Too many innocents have been murdered by people who shouldn't even be here.

Hey BodeMillerJokes:

Why don't you hire African-Americans who need the work instead of trying to hire unsophisticated immigrants on the cheap?

You are the reason why lower-middle-class families are struggling.

Sorry for the typos...I just can't fathom how liberals don't see that ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS as destroying commerce, job chances for blacks and unions, and hurting healthcare for ALL. But hey, most of the Liberals I know are worth MILLIONS and expect SOCIETY to PAY the cost, through as much as 50% taxes on $20,000 salaries. If you think I am lying, that is what Conyers, Pelosi, and a bunch of just-elected Democrats are saying is NEEDED for NEXY YEAR. BTW, I am a Republcian now who was a Southern Democrat until the Clintons-California Freakos destroyed the Democrat Party.

I think this comment section should be cleaned up. There are some far-right blogs exploiting your tragedy to further their anti-undocumented persons agenda.

To the 5:20 posting that only wanted ANNONIMITY.......and to a lot of the rest of you, have the BA**S to own up to your words and identify yourselves.

Yes it is a personal tragedy, but the Ostrich-like liberals are the creators of the chain-of-events that led to this tragedy.

As for me, I know of what I speak....Oh yeah, he's just a Republican. This guy has a BA in Sociolgy, a BS in Bus. Mgmt., and several Assoc. Degrees too. ALL done while working and paying my own way. I worked in Child Care/ Counseling/Psychiatric facilities for over 12 years, now in a Management field seeing the ACLU, Gays/Lesbians, NAACP, La RAZA, and Lulac destroy this country for the Democrats.

Bye the way BODE, F-off, ILLEGAL not Undocumented....those are the ones that just left the stuff in the car, and then went back out to get it.....Liberal Idiot.

um nothing hehe said...

Dan, your comments are insensitive and not welcome here. I suggest you take your anti-human agenda elsewhere.

No human is illegal. The men and women I hire want work, and they will do the jobs Americans are not willing to do.

But enough about politics. Let's rise above exploiting a tragedy to scapegoat human beings.

My comments are welcome here because I am as much a visitor here as you are, and will go to any website I please. I will not be shut up by you or any other liberal trying to claim that Conservatives (new ones or long-time ones) are at fault.

I came to this site because I thought this actress was a very great lady, who died a terrible and wrongful death.

It was YOUR cutting and irresponsible comment another writer that prompted me to examine YOUR abilities to see THRUTH and not just to ccontinue liberal lies about ILLEGAL ALIENS.

um nothing hehe said...

Dan, the only reason you came onto this blog -- as I did -- (but Ms. Shelly's tragic passing was an absolute shock to me, someone who has actually seen her movies and followed her work) was that this blog entry was linked from far-right blogger Michelle Malkin, a person who supports the WWII era internment of Japanese-Americans and supports the internment of Muslim-Americans. I will not let you exploit a tragedy involving ONE undocumented Latino-American to extrapolate it to mean that ALL undocumented Latino-Americans are somehow criminals.

In fact, if the Latino-American immigrant involved in this case was simply shown compassion and afforded the human status all undocumented Latino-Americans deserve, this tragedy would never have happened.

Don't blame liberals or point the finger at the good, hardworking undocumented Latino-American immigrants in this country. Blame the corporation-friendly policies that have allowed individuals like this Latino-American to slip through the cracks and live in the shadows only to surface at the most unfortunate of circumstances.

Again, I want to reiterate that I feel so bad for Ms. Shelly and am heartbroken. But she has left a trail of great art behind, and will always be remembered for that.

Let us stop the hate and begin to heal.

So sorry for your loss, such a beautiful woman. May your memories helo you through this difficult time.

Illegal is illegal - try to whine your way around it and you still get to the conclusion that illegal is illegal.

Let the consequences fall to those who enter a foreign country illegally and to those who assume they are somehow humanists if they hire undocumented workers. They only add to the chaos instead of being part of a solution.

I suppose Bode Jokes thinks it's alright to slip into China, get into trouble, and expect someone to be "nice" to him.

Get real!

And that is probably appropriate....that also could be a tag for majority reporters.

The reason I saw this website is the Michelle Malkin link to show her support for Andy Ostroy as a blogger, and as a New York area person that is sorry for his loss and discussing the nature of crime in the area.

But, you Bode Miller Joke and Mr. Joseph were the ones who bastardized this comment area by slamming a couple of other commentors and Michelle Malkin by outlandishly comdemning them for hoping that there won't be "politically correct" justice for the MURDERER of Adrienne Shelly Ostroy.

She was a beautify and very tallented actress that died at the hands of a killer that was SO ILLEGAL, Bode, that he wasn't even ELLIGLE to apply for VISA status because of his VIOLENT CRIMINAL HISTORY in his own country. He had also had a couple of near arrests here, but diappeared before the arrests according to several reports on CNN, COURT TV, and others. I weap for Ms. Shelly and greave for Mr. Ostroy. But NO PITY or SYMPATHY or EMPATHY for her MURDERER just because he got caught this time. He wasn't an "unfortunate Latin-American", but a killer, THAT IS ALL HE WAS....not "undocumented", but ILLEGAL and deadly to anyone in his way. Adrienne Shelly found that out.

And as far as my politics, I am FOR the best things that will help this country. NOT those things designed in Hollyoood, San Fransisco, Madison, or Dearborn, MI meant to destroy it.

Anonymous said...

I did discover something funny in all of this.....I have made so many typos and misspellings that I feel ashamed. Some I can attribute to my keyboard, and some of them to just not checking how I spelled them.

Anyway, TO ALL: Take care and be safe. For Mr. Ostroy, my heart is with you and your sorrow regarding the death of your wife.

And for all in our political discussions, I have enjoyed the banter, and hope that I did not hurt anyone.

We have a very scary world right now, and we need to work as close as we can to fix it all to save the world from the new threat. The USA Haters, both internal and external, are a breath away from having nuclear devices. This was reported today on virtually ALL media.

Dear Andy,

I went to college with Adrienne at Boston University when she was Adrienne Levine. We lived 2 rooms away from one another in Warren Towers when we were freshman....we eventually lost touch when she moved to NY but I knew she was living her dream in NYC & occasionally googled her to see what she was up to in her career, as I was rooting for her!
I was so shocked & saddened to read of her death, browsing through one afternoon.

My memories of Adrienne bring a smile to my face. We were 18...she was tiny, but a ball of fire, free spirted, smart, funny and always having fun. She was a joy to be around and always lit up the room. She followed her dreams & fulfilled many in such a short time. She was an inspiration to follow your heart....

My heart goes out to you & your daughter Sophie and all your family to give you strength during this difficult time in your life. Adrienne touched my life 20+ years ago to enjoy life always & I will remember her.

If the illegal immigrant has not been in this country, had not been welcomed here by the likes of the above writer, a baby would still have her mother, a husband would have his wife and this woman would be alive today. We would not be having this discussion. The horrific headlines would not have been printed. Women in NYC would not have to wonder about who is working in the apartment building they live in or the office building where they work, as in, is this person safe to be around? That is if an illegal immigrant has not taken either the job or the apartment from them.

I am a survivor of violent crime and abuse from illegal immigrants. Unless it happens to you, no one seems to have any idea of the impact on your life. The people who scream, 'no one is illegal' could care less about those who are being harmed economically and physically by the invaders. They might as well be screaming drop dead to the victims. How PC is that? But as long as you are a White American you can be treated like garbage because you are White and deserve it, according to these people.

The issue at hand is that illegal immigration is importing misogyny and hatred of White Americans. This is the end result of a good idea gone bad. Send them all back, don't make it easy for them to stay, stop the jackpot baby prizes of welfare, housing subsidies, free health insurance, food stamps and WICA. Did anyone bother to ask if the murderer has fathered children yet? If so, send his woman and children back to Eucador before they get on the US government gravy train.

The people who are promoting illegal immigration will wake up when it is too late. How many more mothers have to be murdered? This death is one too many.

This hurts me too much, this murder. It did not have to happen. I wish there were something I could do. All I can do is write about my expereince and how I see what is being done to destroy our country. It's really sad and frightening.

Anonymous said...

Dear Mr.Ostroy, please accept my condolences for the lost of your wife, Adrienne.
I have never took time to write on any blogs but the sadness and the rage I felt in the past weeks
is unbearable... I know it's naive thinking that way but if the customs would have done their job,
Adrienne would be alive today...
Of course, not all illegal immigrants are killers but they shouldn't be able to cross the border.
It makes me even more furious to know (from Mr Tolbert's post) that he (Pillco) wasn't elligible to apply for visa status because of his violent criminal history in his own country and had a couple of near arrests in New-York...
I have no pity for that man...

Andy - I first saw your wife's work on "Trust" and I loved it. I offer my prayers for you and your family and friends. My heart breaks for your daughter.

I blog ( the issues of Islamofascism and illegal aliens. I keep up on everything I can. And I call it what it is.
I read here many people touting that we can't judge all illegals by this one's actions. But they don't not keep up with current events. The fact is that there are MILLIONS of violent crimes commited against women and children - many American families victimized - in this country by illegals every year. YOU ARE NOT ALONE. And white women - American women primarily - are especially vulnerable because these men resent our boldness, strength, self esteem and independence. So many people don't understand this. Don't want to. To victimize a white woman is... different to these peole than to victimize one of their own. I know it from first hand experience(s) and it took me years to see the plain truth.
The fact is that many of these illegals are from misogynistic cultures. Brutal cultures. Much, much different from our own. People like to think that everyone is basically the same, but the fact is that cultures are deeply and fundamentally different. For one thing, gang rapes are on the rise in cour country (and across all of Europe). Gang rape in third world tribal countries are common place. And when these corrupt gvts of thrid world failing and failed nation states export their people, they export the culture along with them. We get the gang rapes, child molesters, murders etc. And trust me, America may not be perfect, but we are far and away a more enlightened and humane culture than those these people are coming from. For instance, these people are selling their own. They are enslaving their own. They are smuggling women and children into America to be endentured slaves, prostiutes.
Plus, with our country taking not enough pride in our people, our resources and our soverignty, they come here with a rape and pillage mentality. And they really do resent us.
I work for secure borders and no amnesty with an activist group here in nyc - and we have discussed your situation. We are not going to exploit it - or even touch it for the foreseeable future out of nothing but respect for you and what your family is going through. But we are ANGRY about it. Another American family vicitmized. A life taken. We are very angry and we will fight this fight.
People don't realise how much damage illegals are doing. They just don't. But I believe it will undoubtedly touch everyone eventually.
I pray you can find peace in these times.
Sincerely, jillosophy

After reading over some of this commentary, I have begun to wonder about the aspect of gender as expressed in this terrible crime. Can it possibly be true that Adrienne Shelly's death has a significance that strikes beyond the obvious horrific tragedy.

Was this not only a murder, but also a hate crime?

TO LIBERAL AVENGER. Your last response was not "cute", or clever or helpful. I AM A LIBERAL and I, and many of my LIBERAL friends agree with the conservatives who have protested illegal immigration on this blog. If nothing else, THEY HAVE BROKEN THE LAW BY ENTERING ILLEGALLY. We are a country of laws. If you, Mr. Liberal Avenger, want them accepted, fight to change the law so it makes illegal immigrants legal. An oxymoron but so is your argument. Perhaps those who agee wth you should change the law to allow anyone in the world who wants to, to come live here. But have the good sense to make that legal before you support it.

I wanted to take a moment and offer my condolences to you in your time of grief and terrible loss. I have counted myself among Adrienne's fans for many years now. I was captivated from the first time I saw her on screen and have faithfully followed her career. She was a gifted talent as an actress, writer and director and a truly beautiful woman. As I followed her life and work, she was one of those persons who found a special place in my heart out of my appreciation for the great talent she had and for the part of herself she shared with the world. I knew her only through her work but that was enough to make a lifelong impression on me. I wish I could have had the opportunity to meet her at least once to share with her the admiration and respect I had for her.

I struggle to make sense of Adrienne's tragic and senseless passing but I know that it never will make sense. So, I have grieved with you during these days. Yet, I know that my own saddness is but the faintest shadow of what you and your family are going through. For the world has lost Adrienne as a bright talent but you have all lost so much more. To you, Sophie and the rest of Adrienne's family and friends, I pray for comfort, peace and healing in the difficult days ahead.

To the person that asked about deleted comments,

I guess here is what appears to have happened to the deleted comments: They were removed for no really good reason that I could tell, other than they were not the average politically-correct comments on this site. It appears that the man that wrote them was just not PC enough for most of the people here.

It is very ironic, the anti-white, anti-conservative, anti-average person comments by several persons who attacked several persons who said they came here from a link from a Michelle Malkin.

Some of the more PC writers went after several people, including the guy with the deleted comments and some others that agreed with him. There were some of them calling him and a lady who wrote a few comments agreeing with him on immigration 'racists'.

They should be ashamed at themselves for not accepting some of the things he was saying that are really happening in immigrant communities in this country. Like watching all the pictures of many illegal aliens having more allegence with Mexico than the US. In my town, they are usually very violent in drug and gang activities. Many are also involved in domestic violence, especially in attacks towards women. I have seen it on the news here a lot.

I just noticed that dan tolbert (the man who appears to have had his comments removed) still has some very good comments near the top of the page about illegal immigration. Since they are not like some of the anti-conservative hate speech on the subject of Adrienne's death by people like some of the ones that attacked him, I wonder how long they will stay up before also being COMMENTST DELETED that are "removed by BLOG ADMINISTRATOR".

I can only imagine the loss for those who knew her personally, the thousandfold grief of those who knew and loved her. You are in our thoughts and prayers. Adrienne is in our hearts. Blessed be.

One problem...It's BUSH who keeps promoting the idea that Americans won't do certain jobs and that we need to keep our Mexican border open like a screen door. Bush is hardly a liberal and so one has to wonder what the reason is behind it. Could it hark back to the slave days of getting someone else to do the hard work?

Yes, this is a warning to ALL women, and men,- Illegal Aliens from third world countries can be VERY VIOLENT at the slightest provocation. I used to slam my window shut whe the grass blowers came by, and first, my car was keyed, (the same day) and second, I got nails in 2 tires (the same day) I called the superintendant and had the illlegal aliens fired, although I should have gotten video of them doing this. Like little childeren, they are EASY to antagonize. Treat them like you would treat a strange dog, with CAUTION! They are NOT assimilated into Anglo-American Culture, and this is one of the consequences. I am truly sorry for your loss.

Me,myself&I said- you are a major part of the problem. Openly and proudly declaring how you hire undocumented aliens "all the time". Avoiding health care benefits and tax laws so that we, the American public( LEGAL aliens included), can pick up the slack that you unlawfully avoid. The fact that you would even post on the page that is offering Andy condolances on his deceased wife and, again, proudly claim to hire illegals stuns me. You are everything that is wrong with the debate. With a little political fortitude, however, I know that someday soon the law will begin to focus on people such as yourself and maybe people like Adrienne won't have to suffer an avoidable and senseless death. For the record I don't "hate undocumented workers"( BTW: those of us that don't hire them call them "illegal aliens" NOT "undocumented workers" but I can see where you might think it sounds "nicer") but, truth to tell, I'm quickly becoming one who hates people, such as yourself, who continue to justify, politize and hire said aliens. I don't know how we can ever expect our foreign vistors to respect our laws when we have people, such as yourself, vagrantly ignoring and avoiding them. But you really care, right? You're one of the good guys? I think that's what the criminal contractor (who hired Adrienne's murderer) called him, "a good guy". Wake up.

"I interrupt the continued cruel and insensitive remarks by certain right-wing partisans to point out that Adrienne's final film, "Waitress,"

Hey mad, I ask you this, who are the true "assholes" you speak of, those so called "right-wingers" who speak the truth & want this insanity to end in order to protect all Americans, or you & your ilk who continue with your absurd leftist rhetoric & allow the insanity & the slaughter of Americans to continue?

Open your eyes. Reality clearly shows there cannot be some dream like mulitcult utopia. Never happened & never will

The concept of vastly different cultures, languages & mores living in harmony is a pipe dream, so against reality & so void of common sense it's mindboggling that any rational human being could possibly think it would work

This isn't about hate, it's about common sense & reality

If you could put aside the radical leftist tripe thats swirling around in that tiny brain of yours & actually see what's right in front of your face, you may come out of your coma yet

Here are two cases from just the past several days of women in Ventura county who were attacked by illegal invaders.

Ventura County sheriff's deputies arrested an Ojai man Monday on suspicion of purposely hitting a woman with his van, authorities said.

Thomas Medina, 34, was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and driving without a license, said Capt. Ron Nelson, a Sheriff's Department spokesman.

Medina was driving a van on private property in the 13000 block of Ojai-Santa Paula Road about 8:25 a.m. Monday when the property owner, a 43-year-old woman, walked up to ask what he was doing, Nelson said.

Medina then reportedly hit the woman with the van, Nelson said. The woman sustained minor injuries, he said.

Here is a story of a woman attacked by a former handyman(illegal)

A Port Hueneme man was arrested near Oxnard on Tuesday on suspicion of attempted sexual assault and residential burglary, the Ventura County Sheriff's Department reported.

At 7:15 p.m., detectives located Alberto Velasco, 34, inside a cafe in the 1100 block of Mountain View Avenue, Capt. Ron Nelson said.

Police said that at 11:10 p.m. Nov. 21, Velasco entered a woman's home in the 3400 block of East Landen Street in Camarillo and attempted to assault her.

Nelson said the woman was sleeping before Velasco held her at knifepoint and forced her into another room. The woman was able to run outside and yell for help, Nelson said. Velasco then ran away, he said.

Officials said Velasco had previously worked in the victim's home as a handyman

Both these women were extremly lucky to be alive. Now instead of fighting against the truth, hows about not allowing adrienns death be in vain. Join forces with the rest of Americans who want to end the insanity of illegal immigration. Or be prepared to live in Aztlanist Hell.

Here is another American who would be alive if illegals weren't allowed to steal into our Country.

Drunk Driver Kills U.S. Marine and Girlfriend Home on Leave for Thanksgiving; ICE to Begin Investigation
by Melissa Harris
The Baltimore Sun - November 29, 2006

The man charged with killing a Marine on leave and his date in a drunken-driving incident on Thanksgiving had been cited for drunken driving months earlier but the case was dropped for reasons that are now the subject of two internal reviews by Howard County.

On Feb. 5, Eduardo Raul Morales-Soriano, 25, was "unable to maintain his balance" as police demonstrated instructions for a field sobriety test, said Wayne Kirwan, a spokesman for Howard County State's Attorney Timothy J. McCrone. Morales-Soriano then refused a Breathalyzer test, Kirwan said.

However, he was allowed to leave the scene of the accident in a parking lot in the 5800 block of Robert Oliver Place in Columbia - about five miles from the Thanksgiving crash - with four citations. A relative drove him away from the site of the 6 p.m. crash, in which no one was injured, officials said.

Marine Cpl. Brian Mathews, 21, of Columbia and his date, Jennifer Bower, 24, of Montgomery County were killed shortly after 10 p.m. on Thanksgiving while waiting at a stoplight at Route 175 and Route 108. Morales-Soriano has been charged with two counts of manslaughter while intoxicated and two counts of homicide by motor vehicle.

These people are illegally entering our country and business men are illegally hiring them. That there is any debate astounds me. Both groups are breaking the law. Memyself calls them "fellow Americans". Setting foot on our land does not make one a "fellow American." Setting foot on our land illegally makes one a criminal. It's that simple.

Anonymous said...

Liberal or conservative, if you allow illegal aliens to come into the country unchecked, you are part of the problem. It would seem that those who come legally are seeking a better life. Those that enter illegally are running from poverty, criminal pasts, are drug runners, etc., who do not want to be in the radar. It is not a democratic party issue. It is a law enforcement issue that is continually tripped up by the Bushies and Republicans. Who gave the first amnesty to illegals? That would be Reagan - the golden idol of the GOP!!! He and the GOP kicked open the door for illegal aliens. Study your history before you blame.

By the way, I live in an area that is highly impacted by, dare I say it?, Mexicans...some who are here legally but many who are not. The illegals do not want to assimilate into our culture. They do not want to be cooperative. They only take from the educational, welfare, and medical systems. I watched two try to scam a sales clerk into giving them money for clothing they took off of a rack in a department store. My rudimentary spanish led me to understand that they were trying to tell the clerk that they had bought the clothes and wanted to return them for money. No sack, no sales slip and no sticker the store uses for purchased items were offered. It was a scam through and through. When the clerk refused they (two women) became indignant and ordered their childen to run through the china department! The children happily complied. This sent the clerks into a frenzy and they stood there and laughed!! I am not a conservative but I decided right then and there that I would never accept amnesty for illegals.

The violent crime rate has shot up in the last five years with daylight car jackings and gang related shootings. The latest arrests were for, you guessed it, illegal aliens from Mexico.

Anonymous said...

Sorry but you are wrong,As I've said the Dems in my state of Calif. instigated social services for illegals which was the major event that drew them acrosss dragging their families with them or creating an anchor baby to tie them here. Prop 187 was passed by a majority landslide victory when the Dems along with the ACLU sued the citizens of california in a federal court, thus listening to advocates of illegals,(invaders) over the voice of Legal American citizens! The constitution of the United States, Section four, Chapter four, clearly states that the American citizens shall be protected by the states against any foreign invasion. If you don't see how, millions of foreigners crosssing our borders, demanding their language be spoken, demanding social programs, as well as dual citizenships ( Mexico & American)be given them is not an invasion, the brainwashing liberals have spinned you with is complete.

Anonymous said...

10:09 is right. The law it the law and all the rest is talk.
If we allow others to break the law and live here as illegal residents, why not allow legal Americans amnesty too? Fair is fair. Why shouldn't we excuse thieves, who after all are only seeking more financial security for a better life, as are the illegal immigrants and those employers who hire them? Why should we demand retribution for drug dealers (they need the money), drug users (who are only seeking a more satisfying life like the illegal immigrants are), rapists; child abusers, murderers (a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do), drunk drivers, etc. Why is one type of criminal more deserving than another? That's discrimination.

Of course this is absurd.

The law must be upheld. If it's a bad law it must be changed through our democratic process. This is a no-brainer.

California forever, The advocates of illegals slept on the steps of state capitals all over the west and southwest, not budging until the house and senate members caved into their demands. In particular to my state, the republicans had no other choice but to go along with what the majority ( Dems ) voted for. Albeit, they should've fought ferociously against the invasion, some did, my state legislator is one of them. Many afraid of losing their seat, decided to simply pander to and use the illegals to the advantage of big business, for once uniting Republicans and liberals under the same banner.
For the republicans it was a matter of damned if you do or doomed if you don't. Extremly bad situation for the working class California citizens.

Anonymous said...

Me forever Calif.
Those in Missouri, had better become prepared to fight for their existence the way us working class in California have been pitted into doing. You will see a progression in your state politics. It will be started by the communizt and Aztlanist, illegal advocates who will sleep on the steps of your states capital until their demands for more civil rights and social benefits are provided illegals who steal into our nation and your state. From that point it will be a cat fight as to who will pander the most to the illegal invaders. Many of your citizens once being awoken to the fact their state is being coroded by the high crime, drugs, high taxes, infra stucture destruction, including closing of many E.R. rooms. Organizations will be formed to pass legislation denying benefits to the illegals. It will be too late, a precedence has been set here in my state of Calif. when the dems with aclu sued the state ( Calif. citizens voice)stated although the vast majority of california citizens voted for prop. 187 no benefits to illegals , dems and aclu, lulac, la raza and a myraid of other illegal advocate groups with deep pockets denied us our voice in siding with the invaders suing California in a federal court, prop 187 was not allowed to become law! YOU'D BETTER WAKE UP NOW!

I live in a RED state where those good REPUBLICANS see nothing wrong with hiring illegals to do farmwork and low level landscaping, etc. Hey, it's more money in their pocket and then they don't have to hire an uppity white kid that might demand a fair wage! The republicans are just as much to blame for the problem. Some want to say it is a liberal only problem. Not true! Check the 1980's and Reagan and his amnesty policy. Also check Bush and his statements about amnesty. You'll find the repubs are just as complicit! But the real problem we face now is how to get the borders closed to illegals. The quality of life here has always been on the lower end, but now it is trashed in some areas. I'm ready to go back to the BLUE state I spent most of my life in. PS, the rest of the country isn't like CA so our experiences with which political party is to blame is not the same!

Anonymous said...

Tell me why, if the illegal advocates care enough to DEMONSTRATE and sleep on the steps of the state capital why are those or you/us sleeping soundly in our beds? It's time to put our feet where our mouth is and walk on capitals, carry banners, carry AMERICAN flags and show how concerned we are. I live in a state where that is not possible because there are not enough here who care or even are aware enough, yet, of how bad it is. But those of you in CA and other states can PROTEST. Who are these Americans who are so passtionate about illegals taking over here? Surely the employers are not sleeping out on steps. Are they legal immigrants? I've heard nothing about who they are.

I was so upset when I heard the news of your wife's death. I am truly sorry for your loss. I have read many of the posts here and unfortunately, as uncomfortable and inappropiate as it may be, the subject of illegal immigration must be considered along with its negative and devastating consequences. Your beautiful wife was unnecessarily a victim of it. I am a nine year veteran of the U.S. Border Patrol and I believe that it is my duty to speak the truth about illegal immigration, and to speak about many facts that the general public will never hear from television news and newspaper reports. From my personal experience with the Border Patrol, I believe that mass illegal immigration, not terrorism, is the most serious threat to the United States and its citizens. I spent two years on a special unit (BORCAP) in which we sought out criminal aliens in the local jails. Our seven-man unit was overwhelmed with the sheer numbers of criminal aliens that we encountered during our daily jail inspections. The most common crimes? Murder, Sexual Assault, Sexual Assault of a Minor, Aggravated Assault, Assault, Domestic Violence, Possession of a CS, DWI, and the lowly PI or Public Intoxication. We were only able to deport or prosecute approximately 150 criminal aliens each month, and that was only from our Border Patrol station alone. Additionally, the number of criminal alien gang members that we encountered was increasing at an alarming rate (i.e. Mara Salvatrucha, Mexican Mafia, La Hermandad de los Pistoleros, etc.). Illegal immigration is not just some victimless crime; there are thousands of victims out there and the human and fiscal costs associated with illegal immigration are growing each and every year. It's true that for every illegal alien we apprehend, another ten or more get by and make it to the interior of the United States. We were also forced to release hundreds of OTM (Other Than Mexican) aliens each month due to a lack of detention space. These OTM aliens were given Notices to Appear in which about one percent actually appeared for their Immigration Hearings. The rest were lost forever in the interior of the United States. So please, join together and demand that our politcians (Tom Tancredo is the one that truly understands the nature of the problem. His book, "In Mortal Danger," is a must read.) do something before it really is too late!

4:54 You've opened my eyes. This information should be reaching every American citizen. Why aren't you appearing on Lou Dobbs who is a strong advocate of immigration control? There are other talk shows too, like Keith Olbermann, who would be glad to interview you and hear your facts. Why don't you people "in the know" do something like organize to educate the rest of us of the dangers.

Anonymous said...

11:41, I don't know about organizing, but I will be more than glad to provide additional information on the subject. The following is a link to one (just one!) prison inmate listing in Cameron County, Texas (Carrizalez-Rucker Detention Center). The list includes the photos, the charge(s), and other information about the prison inmates. Inmates that we have interviewed will have the notice, "BORCAP Detainer" or "Immigration Detainer," included with their charges, which means that they are illegal aliens. We are only able to get to a small fraction of the inmate population because there are so many new inmates being brought in each day, which we often get to first. Hopefully, this will shed some more light on the illegal immigration situation.

I saw that some comments here were deleted. Why?

None of them were foul or lewd, or even bad at all. They were (some were funny) jabs back and forth with some others...almost in a Q&A format.

I remember one of them talked about how most of the 'DNA exoneration' cases were from old-style political machines like Chicago and Philadelphia (most Democrat and a few Republican). It was a response to a very nasty comment vilifying the guy for being a conservative and supporting the death penalty.

I remember another was a response to someone that explained the beginning of the 'Dixie Mafia' with lots of murder-for-hire and drugs in the 1980's-1990's South (LA,TX,AR,OK,MS,TN),that had local-state political connections that allowed it to keep going. My father grew up in that area, and told me stories about it (like in ex-Dallas Cowboy coach Barry Switzer's book about bootlegging still going on in the 1970's in that area).

One was about the fact that Adrienne Shelly's killer had such a violent crimial record in his native country that he was not eligible for a visa to the US, and that he should never be considered just an 'undocumented worker', but a killer-waiting-to-kill.

But none of them were lewd or hurtful, like this garbage below that is still up on one of your other sections.

No Pal I learned all my tricks from your BIBLE BANGING MAMMA. I however refuse to go outside my species and visit the barnyard like so many of you RED STATE inbreds...Time to sign up and fight Bush's Cluster in Gutless BUSHBOT!
3:58 PM

Why are the extreme liberals coming to this site, many who are making anti-America comments, allowed to be rude and vulger to the 'middle-of-the-road to conservative voices' on your blog without being deleted themselves?

I'm just your average guy here, but the far-out left does't get that they are doing more damage than good in this country.

Anonymous said...

I agree with the person who wrote the comment about hurtful things being said to those who may be liberals like me that don't believe in supporting illegal aliens coming into the United States. Most of these Illegal Aliens are criminals, drug gang members, and many are killers like Diego Pillco. But most of all, from watching their protests on the news, they want to destroy the American economy.

Anonymous said...

Contrary to some comments posted regarding liberals, most of us are not out to destroy America. While we tend to side with causes that promote a better life, we are not blind or stupid to the concept that people are entering the country illegally and are destroying our systems of health care, education, labor, and law.

Blaming liberals is just an excuse for conservative inaction. Instead of saying conservative/GOP - good and liberal/Democrat - bad, try asking your own legislator what they intend to do about the crisis. If your legislator is anything like the one in my area - a republican, by the way, you'll get no answer. Just keep asking!!

Anonymous said...

I am a Liberal Democrat but it seems the Dems in power are not going to do a thing to stop the illegal immigration invasion. They are too concerned with getting the Hispanic vote and keeping power. Many of them are morally corrupt and do not believe that upholding the law of the land is their job. They do not understand or care that "illegal" means against the law. Apparently many religions do not understand that the law must not be broken or they would not offer a safe haven to the law breakers. Churches/religions have taken sides on which group of people will be hurt -- the illegal immigrants or the citizens of the USA.

You people are unbelievable. This man (Mr. Ostroy) is grieving and all you can do is come on here and argue about political views. Do you really think Mr. Ostroy cares which one of you is right? He lost his wife for crying out loud! Find another outlet for your political tug of war. This comment thread is neither the time nor place to do it. Have some sensetivity. You care more about being heard and being right than you do about a man's feelings. You should be ashamed of yourselves!

Anonymous said...

11:13pm This is a political blog created by Mr. Ostroy for frank dicussions regarding the current political scene. Why would you want to see his creation wilt from lack of interest or because we all need to bend to your way of thinking? Mr. Ostroy's wife, ironically, was murdered by an illegal alien with a violent criminal history in his own country. This is the perfect place for us "baddies" to vent our views - with one thing in mind - to wake others up regarding a critical situation. If we were so insensitive to his situation, don't you think he would have shut the blog down?

Anonymous said...

There is a time and a place for things. Just because you CAN, doesn't always mean you SHOULD. Do you not see the difference in that? Right now, Im sure Mr. Ostroy is grieving and that is ALL he's doing. Do you think once he learned of his wife's death, he took a plane to the Arizona border and joined the minutemen patrolling the border? Is this important to him? YES, of course it is, but there is a such thing as TIMING. Why dont you wait until he comes back to discuss these things when HE is ready for it. Now is a time for him to heal (as much as he possibly can). It's all about timing. The issue is important, of course it is, but let's wait and hear what MR. Ostroy has to say about it first. He might totally disagree with all of you, then again, he might totally agree--who knows? Right now, Andy needs prayers and comfort and to know people are wishing him the best. Most of you have been doing that. It's about TIMING people, havent you ever heard of TIMING?

Anonymous said...

2:03 You obviously have never suffered the loss of a loved one. One of the first stages of grief is anger. Anger at the doctor whom you think didn't do enough. Anger at the drunk driver who killed your teenager. Just anger because you no longer have the one you adored. And it HELPS to have people in join you in your anger. A cousin chastised me for blaming the doctor for my mother's death. I wanted my cousin to support me, even if later I learned I was wrong. I wanted someone to agree with me, not to "leave me alone" with my grief or worse, try to tellme how foolish my anger was. The anger helped at that stage of suffering. Who on earth should be angrier than Andy? I'm sure he appreciates empathy - most people do. And, if he objects, he can say so in a message to us or have a proxy speak for him. Then we'll be quiet.

Anonymous said...

lol, you're hilarious. Do you really think in Andy's grief he is sitting by his computer monitoring the posts 24/7? When did I say in ANY post I left that you shouldnt be angry at the guy who murdered his wife? When did I say that? I wouldnt say the first emotion is anger. I say the first emotion is that you feel 100 emotions at once....shock, anger, grief, guilt, etc.. etc...THEN you feel just plain grief because you know that all the anger in the world wont bring them back. Then, after your mind clears and time goes by, you channel that anger through action---to do something about what caused this this case, illegal aliens. Im sure once Andy gets through the process of initial grief, he will be America's #1 activist for border security, and he should be. But like I said, it's all about TIMING. If YOUR philosophy was true, Andy would have joined the minutemen the second after he learned of his wife's death, but im sure he didnt...why? Because he's not angry at all with illegals? NO, because of TIMING. Find me once in my previous posts where I said no one should be angry with the man who killed his wife, and I'll give you a million dollars. Here's a good example: Lets say youre best friend's dad gets killed by a robber. When you send flowers or a card, do you put in the card "I hope that robber rots in hell!" or do you say "Our prayers go out to you and your family, etc.."? I feel sorry for you if you answer is the former. This is the kind of thing Im talking about. It's all about sensitivity, tact and timing. Yeah, youre right! Who should be angrier than Andy? Thats my point! So, if you admit that you and the rest of the bloggers shouldnt be as angry as Andy, then why are you? Thanks for proving my point!

Anonymous said... more thing----if you're comparing the death of your mother with the death of Andy's wife who was taken without warning in the prime of her life, then I feel sorry for you that you even make that comparison. Am I saying you shouldnt be angry about your mother's death? NO, Im not. Im saying that a person has different levels of grief and anger in relation to the way their loved one has died. If my father dies of natural causes at age 77, Im gonna be sad, yes, but im not going to be in shock, or angry or devastated like I would be if my wife was murdered at age 30. How can you even compare the two? You're insane if you think Andy should have the same reaction to his wife's death as he would if it was his father who dies at age 80. Are you that dumb?

6:41/6:49 Not only are your abusive remarks inappropriate and distasteful, your illogical reponse is pathetic.

"Do you really think in Andy's grief he is sitting by his computer MONITORING THE POSTS 24/7?"

Anonymous said...

Did your mother die in the same manner as Andy's wife? Did she die in the prime of her life? I did not say Andy would NEVER look at the posts. Im just sure he's not sitting at his computer 24/7 like you would like him to be. Will I think he will EVER read them? Of course he will, or at least try. So your insensitive poor timing of everyone's political arguing about immigration is still valid, because Andy, Im sure, will still read the posts, although in my opinion he's not sitting around awaiting the next post. Why do you insist on creating things I never say? Are you going to honestly tell me that there's NO DIFFERENCE between losing a loved one to murder when they are taken at a young age and losing a loved one to old age or at least a little later in life (say in their late 50's) when it comes to how a person reacts to the death? You are honestly saying there's absolutely NO difference? If John Lennon had died later in life, say in his 60's or even late 50's, are you honestly saying that there is NO difference in how Yoko Ono would have taken the loss compared to having her husband shot dead right in front of her when he was 40 years old? If you can honestly say there's no difference in that, I feel really sorry for you. What did I say that was inappropriate? I think arguing and fighting on this blog board about immigration is inappropriate. I started out by saying "what Andy needs now is comfort and time to heal" and look what you've done---------STARTED AN ARGUMENT! Who's inappropriate?

To the very weird idiot (time stamps of 6:41, 6:49, 4:37) who keeps wanting to say that all posts here are are because Andy wants this to be only a "memorial"'ve got a severe mental problem. You berate anyone that challenges your warped opinion. People like you are the type that bumps into someone and spills their food, then screams, "Look what you did." You are the fool that demonstrates that you are the INAPPROPRIATE one, not the gentleman talking about his grandmother.

Almost all of us have losses that are caused at the hand of murders, arsons, drunk-drivers, a friend killed from a neck injury in neighborhood football game, kids playing in trees in winter(and throwing snow balls to knock each other out of the tree), and a bunch of kids pulling sleds behind cars that throws one of them under a car, etc.

For Mr4:37, to say that 20s-40s are the only ages that matter, shows he really has no understanding or concept of compassion. He just wants his "15 minutes".....on this site.

I feel very sorry for Andy's loss. But there are millions of murderers crossing from Mexico each year.

Andy's HAS SHOWN the "political" nature of this blog, because he HAS NOT DELETED the general nature of the debate. THAT IS PROOF that Andy, as some have stated is monitoring it, but in a way that allows us to express our feelings on the "political ramifications" of the event. I will be honest, I a consider myself liberal, but I am becoming more conservative each time that I am on here, because I agree in stopping illegal aliens.

It looks like the DELETED posts were the ones where a guy stating that he was a liberal-turned-conservative. I think I saw where someone a few posts up talked about what was on the ones deleted. I agree with him/her that they shouldn't have been deleted since they were more as responses to someone others calling him names and harassing him.

I remember one of the deleted posts said that one of the conservative blogs (michelle malkin) had a big section like this for a show of sympathy and support for Andy. Then some of the responders to that person said that they hoped someone would kill her because she is a conservative. Maybe those were deleted too, not sure.

But one thing is for sure. There are some very crazy and stupid ultra-liberals on this site who have more hate-speech here than any conservatives have ever had. I appreciate having my voice heard, but I am waiting to be called names or deleted too.

We all have expressed our sorrow here to Andy for his loss. But that loss would not have happened if Mr. Pillco, as an earlier person said, had not been in the US illegally.

I think that our political leaders Democrat and Republican (including Bush,Kerry, Kennedy, Hillary, Hastert, et al) are becoming TRAITORS for not stopping illegal aliens and the risk of a nuke from coming across the border. WE NEED TO BE TOGETHER AS AMERICANS, NOT DEMOCRATS AND REPUBLICANS, TO KEEP THIS COUNTRY SAFE AND SECURE.

But it isn't just about the crime threat. Cheap labor from Mexico is killing our chances at finding labor and low-skill factory jobs. They are taking jobs in landscaping, fast food, hotel jobs like I did in high school or while going to college. They are destroying our next generation's chances of have starter jobs like we did. Cheap labor from Mexico is killing our job growth in the there will only be the rich or the poor, no middle class. We will become like Mexico.

If Washington, Jefferson, Adams, Lincoln, and Teddy Roosevelt were alive now, they would arrest and probably execute almost every
Democrat and Republican in Washington for TREASON, and kick the UN out for trying to destroy the US and the US Constitution, and for trying to make us a third-world-country.

to say andys wife would still be alive if we didnt allow pilco to cross the borders is like saying that all Russians should be kept out of the country if one of them happens to kill an American. or the black guy who kills the grocer should somehow be representative of all blacks, and therefore we should keep out all blacks. Americans get killed every day. Every hour. every minute. and illegal aliens kill the least of them. look it up, if you care to see facts instead of your moronic prejudice.

By the way, some of you have said that pilco had a long criminal record of violence in his country, Peru or wherever hes from. Can you prove it? Show us ONE credible news story that states that. If you cannot post ANY link here like that then you are simply lying to bolster your moronic racist argument.

If andy IS reading these posts, which i hope he is not, i suspect hes shaking his head in shame for the pathetic fools that you are.

9:21 It is not racist to wish all people to obey the law. To enter the country illegally is obviously against the law. You are talking "apples and oranges." We must remain a country of laws. We are not allowed to choose the laws to be followed and the laws to be disobeyed. Isn't that obvious?

Anonymous said...

no, its not racist to wish to obey laws. But it IS racist to imply that all illegal aliens are not law-abiding, hard-working people...or, worse, murderers. THATS racist, and that's what many people here are doing.

Anonymous said...

10:10 writeL "But is IS racist to imply that all illegal aliens are not law-abiding, hard-working people."

If they entered the country ILLEGALLY then they are NOT LAW BIDING. Ehough said.

However, they are willing to BREAK THE LAW to get a personal advantage.

Who is to know when breaking another law for personal advantage becomes necessary -- like identify theft or whatever.

The laws of the land must be upheld.

Mr 2:48, so conservatives are the ONLY ones that want illegals out of here? Youre INSANE! Then this same person says "Im waiting to be called names too and deleted" AFTER he has called me an "idiot"-----can we say HYPOCRITE? I am not a Republican OR Democrat. I am an Independant. I think for myself, and I dont parrot what the talking heads say. Nothing will happen with the borders. Havent you heard of the North American Union? Its happening people--wake up. Soon, probably within the next 10 years the Canadian and Mexican borders will be erased. You think our government gives a crap? Criminal elements of our government carried out 9/11, what makes you think they care about the borders? Think Im crazy about my 9/11 view? Look up Operation Northwoods, google it. You will see in that document how our own government, our own joint chiefs of staff put pen to paper to kill our own people in 1962 to justify us going to war with Cuba. These documents were declassified in 2000, and covered even by ABC News! I get 99% of my information from the media and people call me a conspiracy theorist! Its unreal. 9/11 was another false flag operation like Operation Northwoods was, only Northwoods was never implemented because Vietnam came along to take our time and troops. As long as we had our war, we were happy. War is America's #1 business. Think Im nuts all you want, this is documented and PROVEN. Only people who dont really deep down care about the REAL truth are the ones who want to cover their ears and yell "blah blah blah" to drown out the truth. You can wish the truth away, but the truth remains. JFK once said "Fear not the path of truth for the lack of people walking on it"----how true that is.

She was an amazing actress, human being. Just an unimaginable tragedy -- such a loss exists beyond words, so if the consolations of a stranger can mean anything to you, it is that we are all in a small world, and we are all connected somehow, and I hope the memories will sustain you and your loved ones. May peace be with you, and your children. Thank you for your time and consideration. Ricardo.

To those who can....,

For the posting at 7:25: Only an asshole doesn't recognize that 9/11 was carried out...and will be carried out again by Islamic Pieces of Sh... that are wanting to destroy the West. Or, I guess you just want to forget the trains in London, India, and Spain; buses in London and all over; the "Shoe Bomber", the near misses of another 9/11 just a few months ago when the British stopped a "dry run" of more airplane bombers (that lead for the need to make us stop carrying on certain liquids); the Canadian terrorist ring wanting to blow-up the Candian Parlement and Prime Minister residence; THE GUY TRYING TO BLOW UP A MALL HERE NEAR CHICAGO-BECAUSE OF CHRISTMAS; and on-and-on....

I don't think conservatives want illegals (especially the LEGAL OR ELSE CROWD seing the economy and jobs going away). I don't think most liberals want illegal aliens because they destroy unions jobs, factory and assembly jobs, and all.

look im not gonna use this blog to debate you about 9/11. Do the research yourself. is a great site. Its already a fact that the London bombings were false flag too, but you do the research. I have given up debating this issue with people. There are only 2 kinds of people in this world....the ones open to the truth and the ones who refuse to believe even when the evidence smacks them in the face (like pictures of the Pentagon before it collapsed that shows a hole in the building only 20 feet wide, not big enough for a plane). You're either open to the truth, or youre not. Research yourself. Start with the irrefutable Operation Northwoods. Heres the direct link to the actual document. Look at pages 7-10 where it lists the specific planned attacks by our own government to blame Cuba.

i have been reading this blog because i am a fan of adrienne's work and i'm grateful to have seen her films. i send congratulations to her in the great beyond for the acceptance of "Waitress" into the sundance film festival. i wish i could be there (although i have not been able to watch any of the films w/her since this happened).

i was unsure whether i should post my views about illegal immigration, but i think it is far worse to ignore the matter because insight and growth is often spawned by discussion. first off "2:52", there is no reason to be rascist or to condemn anyone based on the color of their skin, their country of origin, or because of their religion. i hope someone (bigger than me) can pray for the your eyes to be opened to that.

i would also like to address what "9:21" had written. no one can say for sure whether or not adrienne would be alive today (any of us could die at anytime) if pillco hadn't snuck into this country, but we can say w/certainty that she wouldn't have been murdered by him.
by the way he has chosen to plead not guilty.

murder will happen by citizens and non alike, but the last thing we need to do is import more criminals. an alarming amount of homicides are being carried out by illegal immigrants. people that come to this country LEGALLY must go through an application process, including a criminal background check, health check and index fingerprinting, etc. to help minimize any obvious risk to this country's residents.

i did some research and gathered facts from various website including the "department of homeland security" and the "department of justice". i am going to paste these below. these are STATISTICS and therefore nondiscriminatory.

*In Los Angeles, approximately 95% of all outstanding warrants for homicide (which total 1,200 to 1,500) target illegal aliens.

*Up to 67% of all fugitive felony warrants (17,000) are for illegal aliens.

*26.9% of inmates are non-U.S. residents. 75% of these are from Latin America.

Source: U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Deportable Alien Control System (DACS), reported as of January 2006. The cost to taxpayers of a single detained illegal immigrant awaiting extradition is $95/per day.

SOMETHING MUST BE DONE. i wish a film maker would do a documentary about the negative impact of illegal immigration from a matter of fact perspective. there have been so many crime victims, displaced legal workers, social programs that have been cut, identity theft, overcrowded public schools, less available and affordable housing/apartments, large amounts of drug smuggling (from both borders) etc. it is all very sad. i hope my straight democratic vote didn't make matters worse. :/

The leading Democrat, Reid, is a spineless opportunist. I wonder if his Russian-immigrant wife, whom he says caused him to change his stand on illegal immigration, was an illegal immigrant If not, what's his point?

Anonymous said...

Reid is a mormon - and that's more scary than being a democrat. With the church's baptism for the dead, extensive geneological data banks, insideous missionary program, cash reserves, land ownership, and other deep, deep roots into the fabric of the american money and political scene, you better hope Mitt Romney goes nowhere in his presidential bid and that Harry Reid stays "spineless"!

Anonymous said...

Reid has changed his postion on illegal immigration since 1993 when he was against it and against amnesty. Now he is fighting hard for amnesty for illegals. Romney changes positions readily too if it helps him get what he wants. They're not spinless so much a devious.

1:59 and 7:46 ... Place the blame where it belongs. It belongs on the illegal part of the rant and less so on the race (Mexican). It just so happens that Mexicans are the highest group engaging in the illegal practice. 10:13 is correct - entering a country illegally is tantamount to breaking and entering.
An article in the local paper here said that illegal border crossings are down due to the presence of the national guard. It may seem like too little too late, though.

This is a frustrating situation all around. I have first hand knowledge of what they've done to our educational system ie putting their kids in school for a few months, then going back to Mexico for two to three months, then coming back for a seasonal job and dumping the kids back in school. Then, Bush (No Child Left Behind) expects these children will pass end of year tests with flying colors. Most of the children do not go to school while in Mexico. Let alone become English language proficient.

But the questions remain, which President and administration has allowed illegal immigration to take place for the last six years with only small band-aid interventions? Which president believes there are jobs that Americans won't do and therefore backhandedly supports illegal immigration? What politcal party is this president affiliated with? What can each of us do, once we turn down the volume on the racist rhetoric, to improve the situation?

Anonymous said...

Ugh! People look at the STATISTICS!!! This is not about race or skin color it is about facts and percentages. 2 more police officers shot in the L.A. area by an illegal immigrant criminal (previously deported 3x). No, not all illegal immigrants commit violent crimes but a significant percentage do.

FACT: As the number of illegal aliens in the U.S. increases, so does the number of Americans victimized by illegal aliens.

According to Edwin Rubenstien, president of ESR Research Economic Consultants, in Indianapolis in 1980, federal and state correctional facilities held fewer than 9,000 criminal aliens. But at the end of 2003, approximately 267,000 illegal aliens were incarcerated in all U.S. jails and prisons.

"7:46" Congratulations on showing how moronic you are (although I am sure that happens quite frequently). It sounds like you are the one propagating unfair stereotypes based on where a person is from and not the person from Texas. Vehicular manslaughter by illegal aliens is happening in our country at an increasing rate. It may be more prevalent in areas like Los Angeles or Dallas because of the proximity to "the border" than where you are, but fall back on your geographical elitism because it doesn't sound like you have much else to boast about.

I am writing the governator and I encourage others to do the same to try to share how negatively impacted we are by our broken borders.

Andy, I just found your blog and have added you to my blogroll. I too was appalled and horrified to hear of Adrienne's death. I know her excellent work from Tim McCann's film Revolution #9. I don't know what I can say, except that I'm glad you are with us fighting the good fight, and I hope it helps you cope with your loss.

Anonymous said...

Hi Andy,

I just wanted to wish you and your daughter continued strength. You have both been in my prayers. God Bless you.

Andy -

I am so sorry for your loss. I read with horror about Adrienne's death - and called to my husband in the next room to tell him the news. We are huge fans of her films, and quote her characters often. "Give me five dollars" is uttered at least once a week in our household. Her work made an impression on me, my husband, and many others. She will be missed. I will watch "Waitress", happy that I get to see her work again, yet sad that there will not be more. Her work will live on in her films and in our memories.

Take good care, and my condolences.

Dear Andy,

Well, here it is-3am- and I am so inspired by you and your wife. Thank you, from every fiber of my being, for your example, on so many levels.

Just so you know-it's a no brainer between Al Gore and H. Clinton, but big media, even if he runs, will create a huge problem. Don't worry, because for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. We are impatient, is all.
You are such a fine person.

More Americans recently killed by Illegal Aliens. It doesn't matter what country they are from or whether they entered the U.S. illegally or overstayed their visas. Mass Illegal Immigration is the most serious threat to the future of the United States. I just felt that these stories must be shared with every American citizen, along with the sad story about Mr. Ostroy's late wife.

1. Robert Clark - Film Director:

2. Rebecca Griego - University of Washington Student:
(note the Sanctuary City policy: City law forbids Seattle police from inquiring about immigration status, unless the officer has a reasonable suspicion that person is here illegally.

3. Tessa Tranchant and Allison Kunhardt - Virginia Beach High School Students:

This happens every single day and it seems to be getting worse. For what it's worth, one study states that more Americans are killed by illegal aliens than the total number of American troops killed in Iraq.

I am in Raleigh, NC and just saw a free screening of Waitress last night. I am so glad I saw the entire film and left the theater now knowing the full story. I attended with an indie film group. We discussed the film and how much we all enjoyed it, and an hour went by before I pulled out my phone to look Adrienne up. Someone has said that they thought there had been a dedication to her at the end of the film, and I'd noticed that her name was on the poster at the end. We thought we must have been mistaken. What a delightful film, and what an utter tragedy. I just spent the morning reading articles about Adrienne. I saw those Hal Hartley films years ago, too. Wow... what a waste. And all over a noise complaint. I'm so very sorry you lost her like this.
