Why I Love Sarah Palin

Alaska's Gov. Sarah Palin hit the RNC convention stage Wednesday night with the fiery intensity that Hurricane Gustav threatened but failed to wage on the Gulf Coast earlier in the week. Let's face it, she's beautiful, sexy, smart, funny, sarcastic, tough, oozes charisma and can deliver a rousing speech the same if not better than Sen. Barack Obama. She's the real deal. A true rock star. Pat Benatar with smart-girl glasses. That she's sounds like Frances McDormand in "Fargo" is a special little bonus. It's quite easy to see why Republicans are like high school boys with a mad crush. But fortunately for Democrats, she also has more skeletons in her closet than an osteologist, making her the juiciest target to come along in years. For the left, she could be the election on a silver platter.

As an example, the National Enquirer is dispatching an army of reporters to continue investigating Palin, and explosively alleges in its print edition this week that she had an affair with one of her husband's business partners. And where there's infidelity smoke, there could be fire, especially since the Enquirer recently earned its stripes with its accurate reporting of John Edwards' affair. It also broke the Bill Clinton/Paula Jones scandal back in the early 90's. For any politician these days, having the National Enquirer hot on your trail is definitely not a good thing, especially in the middle of a heated presidential race.

Additionally, an article in The Washington Post Thursday highlights several intense emails Palin sent to former Alaskan public safety commissioner, Walter Monegan, who was fired by Palin in July allegedly for failing to heed Palin's calls to fire her brother-in-law, State Trooper Mike Wooten, who at the time was embroiled in a messy divorce with Palin's sister. As a result, she's currently under investigation by a bipartisan legislative body for alleged abuse-of-power. To be sure, this story has legs and, long after Palin's much-heralded convention speech, it will continue to haunt her and the McCain campaign all the way to November.

The media has not been too kind on Palin either. During the televised convention coverage on MSNBC, conservative columnist and former Ronald Reagan speechwriter Peggy Noonan was inadvertently overheard answering a question about Palin’s experience: "Most qualified?, no," adding that McCain had chosen her not based on ideology, but for the personal narrative. "Every time Republicans do that they blow it." I suspect this sort of off-the-cuff honesty from the press, as well as more hard-hitting reporting, will continue, in part incited by the campaign itself.

The McCain camp has been harshly criticizing the media for its coverage of Palin, signaling that the curmudgeonly nominee's lovefest with the press has finally ended, as it should. As the NY Times reports Thursday, the campaign has distributed news releases criticizing individual reporters for their unfair coverage, including CNN's Campbell Brown, over which they cancelled McCain's scheduled Larry King interview; dismissed a NY Times article about Palin's vetting process as "fiction;" and the campaign's chief strategist, Steve Schmidt, accused journalists of pursuing a "mission to destroy" Palin with "a new level of viciousness."

Overall, Palin's checkered past is quite troubling for the ticket. Toss in her supposed involvement in the Alaska Independence Party, which advocates the state's secession from the Union; her 17-year-old daughter Bristol's
unwed pregnancy; and her husband's DWI 22 years ago and the picture painted is hardly the desired one of conservative family values. Yeah, she's pretty and gives a darned good speech, but there's plenty of there there, just not the kind that McCain bargained for.

What's more, it's laughable to think she'll attract the disaffected female supporters of Sen. Hillary Clinton. There's not a liberal chick alive who voted for Clinton that will throw her support to the anti-choice, anti-gay, anti-stem cell research, gun-toting, carcass-skinning, evangelical, creationist, abstinence-only Republican. I mean, are you kidding?!

Regarding the convention itself, it's so far been a well-orchestrated charade consisting of American flags, cowboys, veterans and the black guy. Twenty thousand fanatic supporters filling the arena and it seemed that all they could find was one lone black dude who kept appearing on camera repeatedly. There sure was a helluva lot of red, white and blue, but hardly any black. If it wasn't so embarassing, it'd be comical.

While Tuesday night's opening mentioned not one single word about the economy, proving yet again how out-of-touch Republicans are with the mounting financial anxieties of the average American, Wednesday's circus contained not one word about Bush and Cheney, proving that Republicans are quite adept when it comes to burying their ugly embarrassments.

In Wednesday night's exercise in revisionist history, speaker after deceptive speaker--including Mitt Romney, Mike Huckabee, Rudy Giuliani and Grandma Sarah herself--were tricked out to distort the truth and lie about the candidates, the war, the economy, taxes and the role of government. These people have no shame. No scruples. They never let facts get in the way of their spinning. And watching their flag-draped BullshitFest was/is enough to make you sick. But what they do have is an insatiable hunger for power, and are doing and saying whatever necessary to win the White House. Obama and the Democrats indeed have a gift in Palin, and with McBush. Let's just hope they know what to do with it before November 4th.

HELP ELECT BARACK OBAMA PRESIDENT: It's time now to help Obama fight the bigger fight and win the November election. He's gonna need money. Lots of money. Will you join me in making as large a contribution as you can to the campaign? I am personally commited to raising $25,000 for Sen. Obama and you can help me reach this goal. Click here to make a contribution. The White House is well within reach. Let's not let it slip away this time.

HELP ELECT BARACK OBAMA PRESIDENT: John McCain and the GOP are going to spend tends of millions on vicious attack ads and aggressive ground teams. There are many swing states this year--Colorado, New Mexico, New Hampshire, Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Missouri among them. With a sizable war chest, Sen. Obama can successfully combat the GOP's attack and win these states. Click here to make a contribution. It's time to change America.

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and her Republican supporters held back little Wednesday as they issued dismissive attacks on Barack Obama and flattering praise on her credentials to be vice president. In some cases, the reproach and the praise stretched the truth.

Some examples:

PALIN: "I have protected the taxpayers by vetoing wasteful spending ... and championed reform to end the abuses of earmark spending by Congress. I told the Congress 'thanks but no thanks' for that Bridge to Nowhere."

THE FACTS: As mayor of Wasilla, Palin hired a lobbyist and traveled to Washington annually to support earmarks for the town totaling $27 million. In her two years as governor, Alaska has requested nearly $750 million in special federal spending, by far the largest per-capita request in the nation. While Palin notes she rejected plans to build a $398 million bridge from Ketchikan to an island with 50 residents and an airport, that opposition came only after the plan was ridiculed nationally as a "bridge to nowhere."

PALIN: "There is much to like and admire about our opponent. But listening to him speak, it's easy to forget that this is a man who has authored two memoirs but not a single major law or reform — not even in the state senate."

THE FACTS: Compared to McCain and his two decades in the Senate, Obama does have a more meager record. But he has worked with Republicans to pass legislation that expanded efforts to intercept illegal shipments of weapons of mass destruction and to help destroy conventional weapons stockpiles. The legislation became law last year. To demean that accomplishment would be to also demean the work of Republican Sen. Richard Lugar of Indiana, a respected foreign policy voice in the Senate. In Illinois, he was the leader on two big, contentious measures in Illinois: studying racial profiling by police and requiring recordings of interrogations in potential death penalty cases. He also successfully co-sponsored major ethics reform legislation.

PALIN: "The Democratic nominee for president supports plans to raise income taxes, raise payroll taxes, raise investment income taxes, raise the death tax, raise business taxes, and increase the tax burden on the American people by hundreds of billions of dollars."

THE FACTS: The Tax Policy Center, a think tank run jointly by the Brookings Institution and the Urban Institute, concluded that Obama's plan would increase after-tax income for middle-income taxpayers by about 5 percent by 2012, or nearly $2,200 annually. McCain's plan, which cuts taxes across all income levels, would raise after tax-income for middle-income taxpayers by 3 percent, the center concluded.

Obama would provide $80 billion in tax breaks, mainly for poor workers and the elderly, including tripling the Earned Income Tax Credit for minimum-wage workers and higher credits for larger families.

He also would raise income taxes, capital gains and dividend taxes on the wealthiest. He would raise payroll taxes on taxpayers with incomes above $250,000, and he would raise corporate taxes. Small businesses that make more than $250,000 a year would see taxes rise.

MCCAIN: "She's been governor of our largest state, in charge of 20 percent of America's energy supply ... She's responsible for 20 percent of the nation's energy supply. I'm entertained by the comparison and I hope we can keep making that comparison that running a political campaign is somehow comparable to being the executive of the largest state in America," he said in an interview with ABC News' Charles Gibson.

THE FACTS: McCain's phrasing exaggerates both claims. Palin is governor of a state that ranks second nationally in crude oil production, but she's no more "responsible" for that resource than President Bush was when he was governor of Texas, another oil-producing state. In fact, her primary power is the ability to tax oil, which she did in concert with the Alaska Legislature. And where Alaska is the largest state in America, McCain could as easily have called it the 47th largest state — by population.

MCCAIN: "She's the commander of the Alaska National Guard. ... She has been in charge, and she has had national security as one of her primary responsibilities," he said on ABC.

THE FACTS: While governors are in charge of their state guard units, that authority ends whenever those units are called to actual military service. When guard units are deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan, for example, they assume those duties under "federal status," which means they report to the Defense Department, not their governors. Alaska's national guard units have a total of about 4,200 personnel, among the smallest of state guard organizations.

FORMER ARKANSAS GOV. MIKE HUCKABEE: Palin "got more votes running for mayor of Wasilla, Alaska than Joe Biden got running for president of the United States."

THE FACTS: A whopper. Palin got 616 votes in the 1996 mayor's election, and got 909 in her 1999 re-election race, for a total of 1,525. Biden dropped out of the race after the Iowa caucuses, but he still got 76,165 votes in 23 states and the District of Columbia where he was on the ballot during the 2008 presidential primaries.

FORMER MASSACHUSETTS GOV. MITT ROMNEY: "We need change, all right — change from a liberal Washington to a conservative Washington! We have a prescription for every American who wants change in Washington — throw out the big-government liberals, and elect John McCain and Sarah Palin."

THE FACTS: A Back-to-the-Future moment. George W. Bush, a conservative Republican, has been president for nearly eight years. And until last year, Republicans controlled Congress. Only since January 2007 have Democrats have been in charge of the House and Senate.

McCain chose her on purpose because he knows he will be defeated. As every military man knows before heading to a losing battle, you must be able to blame some else for the defeat.
And Palin was the most qualified person to receive that blame.
He could not blame Bush because he is too powerfuil and he might destroy him after that. So he chose a powerless idiot.
If she were smart she would have turned him dow.
The election is over.

You're still spamming my mailbox: jbc@lies.com.

Please stop. You do not have my permission to send automated updates to me every time you post a new story. You never did have it, and your willingness to add me to your promotion list without my permission in the first place, and your unwillingness to remove me from it even after several requests that you do so, violates what I would view as a bare minimum level of ethical behavior, Internet-wise. It might actually also be illegal; aren't there anti-spam laws on the books in various jurisdictions?

Anyway, please, again, stop spamming me.

Thanks.

Oh, lord. Another lobotomized ape proving the accuracy of Godwin's law (that any political discussion between opponents will inevitably lead to someone raising the nonsensical Hitler analogy).

Let's see here: Republicans are pro-torture, against the rule of law, advocate unnecessary invasions of other nations, were against civil rights for blacks and gays, are practically the aryan party,
they demonize hispanic immigrants, prefer most powers to be held by the Imperial Presidency, and so on...

Yeah, it's the Democrats who would vote for Hitler.

What a lot of BS for Sarah but not surprising! She claimed to be against the Bridge to Nowhere yet she was for that and only after the outcry against it did she change but SHE STILL took the money and used for other pork spending. In fact she has grabbed thousands of earmarks in spite of her claims.
She makes the usual republican claim about Democrats raising taxes, always a good bogyman, and like a true elephant she forgot that Obamas proposal would raise taxes only for those making $250,000 year or more. Or maybe like McCain she thinks that is what ordinary Americans make. Its the usual Republican Tax fear mantra where truth is just an inconvenience.
Republicans were preaching experience and now they nominate her??!! She could be the next President and that’s ok? Shows that all the talk about experience is bullcrap. Just political posturing.
Republicans like her because she makes snide remarks and attacks Democrats. That’s all they care about it and it shows. If they wanted woman who could really be a help in serious governing they have many others in their party much more qualified.
Its theater of the absurd. McCain running a campaign against Washington insiders! Yes the Republican idea of change is a 72 year old man who has been in Congress since its founding, and who has voted with Bush 90% of the time! Its a joke but no more so than Republicans railing against pork barrel spending and the influence of Big Oil. HA HA Doesnt anyone ask what they have been doing all these years.
Its not surprising they could get away with this after all Bush got us into a war for reasons shown to be false and that didnt stop them from voting for him again. No big deal to them, I guess.
The only people that could buy this load of crap are die hard Republicans who also think there really are WMDs in Iraq and that this phony war really does have something to do with terrorism. And those that believe unemployment, inflation, the falling dollar, and the massive deficit are nothing compared to the horror of gays getting married.
The GOP of today just goes to show how much people will believe if you create enough fear and denounce the critics as unpatriotic. Has anyone seen that strategy before???

It's going to be some election when the ENQUIRER and GLOBE offer proof of Palin's infidelity and Obama's homosexual and drug episodes. We'll all have to decide which "sin"

What i think is soo fuckin awesome about the choice of Palin is this:

The only way McCain stood a chance at victory in this anti-Republican environment was making this election a referendum of Obama: he's exotic, foreign, too liberal, too inexperienced, a celebrity, "just words", and so on...Picking Palin, who is a virtual uknown and has never been remotely vetted by the media (let alone the McCain campaign), makes the entire month of September all about her, rather than Obama. We'll get drip after drip out of the spigot with regards to negative information regarding her for the next few weeks. Sure, die-hard conservatives will rally behind the ticket. But independents and moderate Dems? Her positions on abortion, global warming, etc...will sew up Pennsylvania, Ohio, and a few other states for Obama, especially as this year the numbers of newly registered Democrats far, far, far outnumbers newly registered Republicans.

McCain succeeded in making this a close race with his negative attacks on Obama in August...when the entire media was focused on Obama's "celebrity" and alleged inexperience. Now, the Big Suck of the media will be totally devoted on Palin....IT'S LIKE MANNA FROM HEAVEN!!! THANK YOU JOHN MCCAIN, BLESS YOU...

I find her remarks repulsive and not worthy of my time. She is a hardline militarist like the rest of the corporate field and I condemn her and McCain in the strongest possible terms.

Palin is unmistakably "the gift that keeps on giving." After listening to Palin's speech yesterday evening, I have to conclude that Sen. Obama is absolutely correct in his analysis of this campaign: the Republicans want to make the main issues "experience" and "personality" to distract the voters from their abysmal record of few accomplishments of the past eight years, instead of focusing on what they intend to accomplish over the next four. After all, what could you possibly expect from a political party, 71% of whose convention delegates believe that Bush is doing a great job as President? This election should clearly be about us and where our country is heading and not about "experience," "personality," "hockey moms," "POW's," "community organizers," or the price of tea in China. If we voters allow McCain and Palin to skate on the thin ice of their "personalities," then we will have done our country a grave disservice!

People, if you want to shoot down Palin, focus on her support for imperial war and repression.

Don't say, "She lied to protect her grandchild! She tried to fire the guy who abused her sister! Her husband got a DUI and she stood by him!" God, are you trying to get her elected?

She also brings a Down's syndrome baby to a hall of thousands. Anyone that knows about Down's knows that their environments need to be tightly controlled. Can you imagine how terrified that kid was with all of that noise? They showed exactly one picture of him angelically sleeping in Cindy McCains arms. How was he the rest of the time? It makes me wonder if they didn't drug the poor kid because no child could sleep through that. Yeah she rocks alright.

I hate McCain and I probably don't like Palin. That is what I am attempting to figure out. I had some hopes because she had not spent any time in the viper's den (DC).
BUT I HATE obama and I HATE biden--beholden to all things soros, brezinski and elitist CFR--in other words, owned by forces working against the average american.
While I would be willing to listen to someone speak about Palin's shortcomings, the plug for obama calls your integrity and intelligence into question. Clearly, obama is a communist (frank marshall davis), a racist (jeremiah wright) and a muslim (indonesian school records and dozens of witnesses) and a liar (see all of the above).
You would actually use Palin's daughter's pregnancy and her husband's 22 year old DUI as reasons why she is unqualified for VP??? WTF?? What do those have to do with her or her abilities to fight off corruption?
Again, I am very suspicious of Palin and I hate mccain so I will likely "waste" my vote on an independent candidate.
But the intellectual inferiority of the typical obama supporter--who, for some strange reason is blind to their candidate's many shortcomings (above, I forgot to mention the gay affairs of obama, or the illegal activities he engaged in to cover up said gay affairs and cocaine use!!!)--makes me so angry--I just may vote for mccain.
So keep on acting vindictive and hypocritical and I am sure you will push many disgusted and undecided voters right into mccain's camp.
In fact, the attacks against the daughter are almost enough to make me use my vote as a NO vote. As in "NO TO OBAMA"

Obama blathers about “change” but then chooses as his running-mate a Washington relic who has managed in 35 years to be wrong on just about everything while compiling a record nearly as slavishly Leftist as Obama’s. In an era of complex, vicious, asymmetrical threats, Democrats give us a “community organizer” without a shred of executive experience who, in his years as a state legislator, voted “present” when it was time to make the tough calls. Except, of course, when it came to life: In a nation repulsed by partial birth abortion, Obama decided to make his stand enabling the practitioners of infanticide.

CHICAGO (CBS) ― An estimated 123 people were shot and killed over the summer. That's nearly double the number of soldiers killed in Iraq over the same time period.

The city Obama left behind him is in shambles. Obama couldn't change his largest city, what makes people think he could change an entire country ?

Anonymous said...

8:58,

First of all, Chicago's murder rate has been cut by more than half since 1992.

Secondly, there are 140,000 troops in Iraq and 10,000,000 people in Metro Chicago. If 60+ troops and 123 Chicagoans were killed this summer, that means the death rate of troops in Iraq is multiples of times higher than that of citizens of Chicagoland.

It's pretty clear you have fuck-all understanding of what you are bitching about.

Anonymous said...

9:46 PM,
You don't know what YOU are bitching about. The soldiers in Iraq are in a war zone. In Chicago, it is unlawful to possess a gun unless it has been registered with the police and Chicago doesn't allow the registration of handguns.

Obama failed to make Chicago the gun-free zone that he tried to make it. It strengthens the case AGAINST preventing the lawful possession of handguns because the criminals know that they are less likely to have a gun-on-gun encounter when the are attacking lawful citizens.

Obama left Chicago a wreck and there is no evidence that will have any success with an entire country.

10:10,

Are you truly this achingly ignorant?

The quote was intended to draw the same misguided notion, an American city is more dangerous than Iraq, that was foisted upon us by dolts several years ago with a comparison between Washington DC crime statistics and Iraq. Is John McCain to blame for Washington supposedly being more dangerous than Iraq since he's been in Washington for 26 years?

You embody the old axiom that there are lies, damn lies and statistics - especially when in the hands of a partisan with an agenda.

You refuse to accept the facts of the numbers in context and also refuse to accept the very respectable and commendable progress made in the city of Chicago.

That's why she and her ilk have to keep claiming Obama is an elitist. It's total psychological projection. It's the GOP who think they're superior and better than everyone else, smarter, nobler, more patriotic. I can't believe so many people are fooled by her sexy librarian look. Well, they were fooled by W's folksy act, too, especially in the media, which told us endlessly how much fun he was, how warm, how buddy-buddy and relaxed. Of course the opposite is true.

Based on her speech, it's really rather difficult to tell exactly what Sarah Palin oozes.

The speech, you see, was written before she was found (or, for that matter, "vetted"). The McCranky campaign admitted they had to "feminize" the speech because they'd assumed it would be delivered by a guy, hence the silly line about "parents of special needs children will have a friend in Washington." Yeah, sure, Sarah, a "friend." Friends, you know, pat you on the back and say things like "Aw, damn! Too bad about that funding for special needs kids drying up! Sure sucks to be you! C'mon over some night and we'll talk about it over my secret-recipe Caribou Carbonara." What she didn't say was that those parents would have an advocate in Washington. Big difference.

Why does this matter? While I'm sure the Palindrones won't acknowledge it, while Joan of Snark was busily trying to grudgefuck her ex-brother-in-law, she also found time to cut funding not only for resources for pregnant teenagers, but hey! She cut funding for special needs kids, too! What a gal! What a "pit bull!" What a harridan.

Sidney,
The other day you were spouting from your pie hole some of your typical predictions. To quote you:

"Nearly forty million televisions were tuned to Obama's speech last thursday (lord knows how many people actually saw it...50? 60 million?)

How many do you all think will tune in to watch McCain's speech on Thursday? I'll bet it's only half, no more than 20 million..."

Palin got near forty million televisions (1 million less than The Messiah) - lord knows how many people actually saw it 50? 60 million ?

Its time to eat some crow you misogynist. New polls are showing that Palin is the most favored by average Americans on either ticket.

The Democrats hate women - the Democrats hate over fifty percent of the population. The Republicans are defending the sexist remarks against Palin made by sexist Democrats. Women are the most oppressed group of people in the world, followed by children. This has got to end and now.

Sidney,

It is interesting how you exempt Obama from his own behavior.

He is a serial liar - for example, he lied about how his own father came to the US and how MLK's 1965 Selma march was the reason for his 1961 birth. He lies about the fact that he had been raised in the Muslim religion for many years as a child, taking classes and attending mosque with his step father.

He committed felonies that he has admitted to by taking and possessing narcotics.

He voted to withold treatment of babies born as a result of botched late term abortions so that live born babies would die.

He has no signature legislation to his credit in any of his legislative positions. He's been a senator for three years and spent two of them running for president.

These are all truths.

How a guy like this can be your rock star is beyond me.

What bugs me about the media coverage of Palin's speech was that she was good at reading a speech that someone else wrote. That was all! She was a good reader.
And based on reading qualities, I read the most ncredible "insights" "reviews" and all sorts of BS that insulted my intelligence. (I also feel the same about anyone who reads speeches written by others...)

Somebody's competence surfaces when he/she answers -live- questions on various issues relating to the job and only the job. This is why I was furious when both Hillary and Obama accepted to participate on the faith forum. I had admired McCain for not going along the first time. The second time however, he gave in and he became part of that "discussion" on "what jesus would do" and "what is your favorite Bible story" that occurs only in third world countries.

Anyway, about Palin, let's hold our horses until she faces an active and not a passive audience.

PS. One conclusion drawn from her speech. When she went along with stretching the truth and insulting community organizers, she mobilized lots of people against her. The donatins Obama piled immediately after prove this.
From that I concluded that she may be sly, but not intelligent.

Not that it matters of course, because if intelligence were a prerequisite... anyway... you know what I mean.

Why did Obama change his American name BARRY to Barack? Unlike him, even most immirgrants "americanize" their names.

I'm with the poster who points out the oppression and hatred of women in the Democratic Party. That has got to be a major consideraiton. It's gone on far too long.

1) He's not my "rock star". In fact, I have no knowledge of his musical talents. I've never heard him sing nor seen him play any instrument.

2) I guess nuclear proliferation means little to you. B/C Obama and and Republican Dick Lugar passed a bill to secure loose nukes that went into effect last year. And, he spearheaded and passed the most expansive ethics reform bill in the history of the US Congress. A trifle matter, I suppose. Not to mention the hundreds of bills he authored and passed in the Illinois Senate (video recording of interrogations in capital cases, death penalty reform, health care expansion for the poor...)...You're straight up wrong on the facts...

What about your boy, McCain? He passed McCain-Feingold, which his entire party hates and has been completely ineffective. He's now flip-flopped and is against his very own Immigration Reform plan...Talk about scruples...He was against the Bush tax cuts before he was for them. And on and on...

You know, you call Obama our "rock star" and Repugs label him a celebrity, but in fact it's McCain's campaign which is all about biography (POW, POW, POW) and not Obama's. McCain has been on Leno and the Daily Show more than any other American politician. He hangs out with the Hollywood crowd. Who's the celebrity again?

And if you want to talk about committing crimes: You may want to look at your boy Bush's administration...Bush was a cocain addict and alcoholic. He was charged with DUI. His administration has broken dozens of national and international laws w/r/t spying, torture, political firings at the Justice Dept, the outing of a CIA agent, and on and on...

10:26 To point out the obvious (speaking of intelligence) all of the speaches are read (except when repeated so many times a la Obama, they are eventually from memory) and speeches are written by other people. These people are called "speech writers. Welcome to reality.

She did not insult community organizers. She said they did not have to make decisions for a large number of people.

And you will be better informed when you realize there is a huge number of Aericans who insist upon knowing the religious beliefs of the people who govern them. I surely want to know what relihious or other ideology motivate people who determine conditions in my life. That should be obvious -- speaking of intelligence.

And above and beyond religion, I don't want a mysogynist as president = neither a male or female mysogynist. They will not have women's best interest at heart.
Nor would I want a racist of any race or anyone who does not put America first. You can only determine this when people go on forums and answer questions. And, then you can't be sure because people lie.

Sidney claims, "Recall that in early 2007, OBAMA WAS FAVORED BY A SHITLOAD OF REPUBLICANS."

What Sidney fails to understand is that the ONLY reason Obama was favored by Republicans was because he was not a Clinton.

Sidney claims, "Obama and and Republican Dick Lugar passed a bill to secure loose nukes that went into effect last year."

In reality, the Lugar-Obama Bill was passed on a voice vote on December 11, 2006. It was so routine, there was no recorded vote. The media didn’t consider it important or controversial. Neither the New York Times nor the Washington Post reported its Senate passage, though the Post ran a 798-word op-ed by Senators Lugar and Obama the week before it was approved. It was not the subject of a story on the CBS, ABC or NBC evening news–not when it passed, not when it was signed, not ever. No story about it appeared in Roll Call or The Hill, the daily newspapers that cover the minutiae of Congress. It drew only one squib in Congressional Quarterly–and that story didn’t mention Obama, just Lugar. The Bush administration supported it. The legislation required the administration to report to Congress within 180 days “on proliferation and interdiction assistance” to secure the mostly conventional weapons stocks littering the nations born from the collapsed Soviet empire. It created a new State Department office to support the Bush administration’s “Proliferation Security Initiative” aimed at interdicting weapons of mass destruction and conventional weaponry. And the bill authorized $110 million in funding. But this legislation didn’t require a profile in courage to co-sponsor or hard work and powerful persuasion to pass, as Mr. Biden implied.

This legislation was at the same level as declaring a watermelon month. It doesn't show Obama has any courage in any way. It's like voting 'to live' - of course, in the case of Democrats a vote "for life" is not such an easy decision.

Anonymous said...

Sidney,

That thing with Lugar was so insignificant that it wasn't even published in the congressional record, not reported on by any news service and quietly signed by Bush. It's a gimmee - the kind of bill that gets passed without discussion because its so damned obvious - and practically speaking inconsequential.

But tell me - why do you avoid the other issues I raised and spend time playing games about music and such. I assume it's because it's you prefer to change the subject and be-little, a typical tool in the lefty toolbox.

But answer - why did he lie about his roots? Why did he lie about his Muslim background? Why is it okay to commit violations of felony drug laws?

10:55 An intelligent person, such as yourself, should realize that unless we know what our leaders believe in and think we will be unable to protect ourselves if they in secret believe in a theocracy. We can only defend ourselves against what we know. We should know everything we can about our choice of leaders, including their master's thesis about race relations and what is preached at their churches.

The Germans had no idea what they were getting with Hitler.

You repuglican trolls are so funny, blaring on about Obama's teenage drug use. I'm sure you were equally vocal about Bush's substance abuse. I'd like to hear your argument against the Bush Administration's breaking of domestic and international laws that are of far greater concern than Obama having tried coke a few times a few decades ago.

You guys are jokes. You get bent out of shape over Obama's pot smoking 30 years ago and the fact that for four years he lived with a step-father who was muslim, but you guys don't even blink and care not one whit about trivial things like government-sanctioned torture, eavesdropping, tax cuts for the mega-rich during war time, the launching of an unnecessary war based on faulty intelligence, black sites, extraordinary renditions, political firings at the Justice Department, the outing of a CIA agent, obstruction of justice, global warming denial, etc...

You guys really do care about this country and your priorities are evidently in the proper order. Seriously, none of you have any credibility. Repubilcans, after 8 years of malfeasance, misgovernment, cronyism, corruption, and scandal, have lost all ability to be persuasive. You guys get worked up in a lather about Michelle's "proud" comment, but you miss the forest for the trees. These last eight years have given Americans little to be proud of. You guys are totally fucked in the brain. Wake the hell up to reality!

What has happened to the Democrats? I have heard them attack a 17 yr old girl and call her degrading names for getting pregnant (DNC approved). I have heard them blame the mother for having a handicapped child. I have heard them call women unfit mothers for working outside the home. During the primary Hillary Clinton (whom I did not support) was vilified for daring to run against a man for President by the democrats - her own party. How low you have sunk. Did any democrat step up and speak out against this. Keith Olbermann on MSNBC called for Hillary to be murdered. Not one word from the DNC. I have alot of respect for the republicans who have stood up and defended women and Sarah Palin against this sexist, degrading treatment. I hear democrats say Sarah Palin does not believe in birth control, but when I ask for links where she actually says this, no one provide it. I even went on the NARAL site where they supposely stand up for women (silent when Hillary was being degraded) and asked about their smears of Sarah Palin. They did not provide any links. Isn't it about time to stop and hate! If democrats want to get elected - talk about the issues. Explain why in the last 2 years you have give Bush everything he wanted. Why should we (yes I am a democrat) believe you will stand up for the middle class and poor now when you haven't in the past? My no impeachment? Why no healthcare? Neither party is great on issues that affect the people. I guess that is why it is okay to run a smear campaign.

Movie review for The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor starring John McCain

This is John McCain’s first movie appearance since his cameo in Wedding Crashers. McCain has once again played himself this time starring as the film’s protagonist, the Mummy. It was a clever casting move by the film’s directors, as no makeup was needed to portray McCain as an ancient decaying evil corpse.

The movie begins when McMummy falls out of his chariot and is captured by the Syrians. He spends five and a half years being tortured in a Syrian prison camp and being brainwashed into a secret Syrian supporter. When he returns to Egypt his wife who has faithfully waited for him, falls off a camel and is crippled. McMummy, becomes a politician in the Egyptian parliament and is then involved in a political scandal. He is known as one of the “Cairo Five,” a group of five Egyptian politicians who took bribes and kickbacks to reward lucrative government contracts to a wealthy businessman. McMummy is attracted to the businessman’s secretary who accidentally burns a pile of records that implicated him deeper in the scandal. He starts cheating with her, and it doesn’t hurt that she’s a wealthy meade heiress. McMummy applies for a marriage license with the beer heiress even though he is still married to the woman was crippled in the camel accident. McMummy uses his war record to help people forget about his corruption issues. He styles himself a “maverick” by doing maverick things like voting against a holiday for “Mummy Luther King,” an Egyptian holy man who was murdered for preaching for peace and equality between the Egyptian races. McMummy’s conservative followers aren’t to into things like peace and equality, they love war and so does the McMummy.

McMummy’s political ambitions burn for him to be Pharaoh someday but by the time he gets the opportunity he is snake bit by his political rival a former Pharaoh’s son “Bushotept.” Bushotept is a brain-damaged figurehead but his handlers maliciously slander McMummy spreading rumors of his having a Nubian baby and of being a homicidal maniac from his years in a Syrian prison. McMummy is defeated by Bushotept and he falls in line to serve the new Pharaoh. McMummy lusts for war after war with Egypt’s neighbors and he helps Bushotept gin up a war with Babylon so they can seize its rich resources. A million Babylonians are slaughtered in the war and thousands of young Egyptians are needlessly butchered in Bushotept's invasion and occupation of the fertile crescent. McMummy is in ecstasy from all of the destruction caused by the war with Babylon. He takes credit for the carnage and urges a war with Persia. After eight years of war and economic ruin from Bushotept and his cronies it’s McMummy turn to run for pharaoh. He is now older then the dead sea scrolls and he can’t even remember how many pyramids he owns.

When it comes time for McMummy to pick a running mate he picks Cleopatra’s religious fanatic sister Sarahpatra. Sarahpatra believes Osiris, God of the dead, wants to burn up the earth asap. She also believes Osiris is against healthcare for children and for tax cuts for the rich. The faithful are delighted with his choice even though she cant find Babylon on a map and is one McMummy heartbeat away from being Pharaoh.

More people watched Palin and McCain speeches.

Barky, DNC, and FEC get served for lawsuit, Berg vs Obama, DNC, FEC regarding Obama's actual citizenship status to run for POTUS.

Annenberg Papers are opened revealing that Obama and Ayers are more than just casual friends and funneled money to Jeremiah KKK Wright's church.

Lawsuit still stands for Obama lying on his IL Bar application stating that he had no aliases - except he has school records stating he went by Barry Soetoro. Oops. Barky has a bad memory.

And you all still want to support this shadow?

Mit Romney must be really pissed off. Blue collar roots, well-educated former governor and successful very wealthy business man.
The Mormon thing is no problem compared to the infidelity, out-of wed-births, abandoning wives and family values of the Palin/McCain ticket. He would Trump the Obama's education and he actually has relevant experience. Most importantly -- He knows other smart people.

McCain is a clown and Palin has been taken advantage of.

I am not sure it is time for a black guy or woman President. But I am with George Will. McCain has issues that can't be overcome with time or experience. And if he dies in office, God help us all.
