An Alito Filibuster Would Make the Democrats "Look Bad?"

Sen. John Kerry told CNN Thursday that he's attempting to pull support together for a filibuster of right-wing Supreme Court nominee Samuel J. Alito Jr. Apparently he has the backing of fellow Massachusetts Sen. Ted Kennedy. But many Democrats appear apprehensive about supporting such a measure, and the White House says a filibuster will make the Democrats look bad. Come again? The White House? We're talking Bush administration officials saying Democrats will look bad? Can a party possibly look any worse than the Republicans do right now with the litany of moral, ethical and criminal charges facing them? Are the Busheviks for real?

The Democrats must filibuster this activist judge, and they must do it with zeal and a public display of passion not seen from the left since FDR, rallying against similar GOP threats to the balance of power, declared in a 1932 campaign speech that "Were it possible to find ... men almost godlike in their ability to hold the scales of justice with an even hand, such a government might be in the interests of the country, but there are none such on our political horizon." Democrats must fight tooth and nail to prevent Prince Alito, of "unitary executive" fame, of ever sitting on the bench and further strengthening the hand of King George and his monarchy.

Look bad? Wanna know what's gonna make the Democrats look bad? Lying down like dead sheep and letting the King's chosen one sail through without a fight. That's what the Democrats should worry about.

As Bush's ratings continue to worsen, with close to 2/3rds of the country not supporting his adminstration, it has become apparent that this is not a Republican vs Democrat, left vs right, liberal vs conservative issue as much as the original division of Loyalist vs Patriot - Bush Loyalist vs American Patriot - the latter following the words and writings of the Patria, our Founding Fathers, as found in the Constitution, Declaration of Independence, Federalist Papers, pamplets such as Paine's Common Sense. For the good of America, the confirmation to the SCOTUS of those Loyalists such as Samuel Alito must not be allowed to happen.

    Yes, filibuster Alito. Great.

But the largest issue facing EVERYONE who wants to remove the Bush Junta is the
"Help America Vote Act" and the Electronic Voting Machine System.

Why haven't the lefty blogs been screaming about this? No one seems to be paying any attention...

Alito Filibuster: If not now, when?

I can't believe we do not have our ducks in a row about this already.

Cathy, I too don't get it. When will the public and OUR party start standing up and fight?

I received another bit of mail from Hillary yesterday asking for money. I ALWAYS send it back with no pledge but just a note saying I'll open my check book when she starts being a Democrat. I do this to all of them because right now I'm not a happy camper with the way MY party is behaving.

I absolutely agree with Senators Kerry and Kennedy from Massachusetts on the need for a fillibuster, and I am a southern Democrat (from Florida). I think Senator Reid as majority leader needs to get on board with this, pronto, or we should elect a new Senate minority leader. And right now, Senators Tim Johnson, Robert Byrd, Ben Nelson, and any others that are considering voting for Alito are turncoats to the Democratic party.

I agree with all of the above. The spineless Democrats seem to believe in some mythical "center" which will make one of them president. It doesn't exist and it's time the Dems realized it. The country is polarized and we, who read and agree with the Ostroy Report, are the majority. Read the polls Dems and filibuster.

"Senators Tim Johnson, Robert Byrd, Ben Nelson, and any others"....

Hey gang, if you or anyone you know lives in these states, please call these namby-pamby Senators and DEMAND that they vote "no" on Alito and support a filubuster or they will lose your votes....

What the hell is in the water in DC? Don't these so called Democrats (and Republicans for that matter) in the legislative branch realize that this latest move to facism by the Bush administration involves putting someone on the court who is happy to render the legislative branch obsolete? Heck if they want to be irrelevant, they are well on their way but to be so damned willing to give away the entire third branch - because they don't want to look bad and think they are playing to the center? Nov. 2006 can't come soon enough for me; unless of coruse the Diebold fix is in, then we're screwed. Anyone read the Declaration of Independence lately?

    Filibuster: GREAT!

How about being more vocal on FISA LAW VIOLATIONS and the need for a SPECIAL PROSECUTOR?

What about the Bush Administration Denying the Philippine Authorities custody of FOUR MARINES ACCUSED OF RAPE IN MANILA?

What about a more courageous stance against the ADMINISTRATION'S
    CYNICAL, INHUMAN, DESTRUCTIVE FOREIGN POLICY?

Andy: Good to have you back in the Blogosphere!

Can't our electected Democratic Senators see the man behind the mask?? that he has an agenda??? and it is not for the good of the people????? That Alito is a smart & slippery one. We would've been better off with a Bork (than a dork). At least he was straightforward and honest. Repugnicans are truly sheep & parrots, but Democrats are scared little Debunnies.

I am registered independent but normally vote for Dems (obviously) and still probably will, but I am no longer going to donate to them unless they start getting it together and play some tougher ball.

Democrats must be more afriad of "looking bad" to Republicans than to their base or their constituents.

Tony Hall who is now with the UN was a Congressman in Ohio... he was given a 'better' job opportunity and vacated his seat for Mike Turner to win... it has been going on quite a while in this administration.
