More Shameless Cronyism as Bush Names Miers to Supreme Court

President Bush has announced his choice of White House Counsel Harriet Miers to replace the retiring Sandra Day O'Connor to the Supreme Court of the Unites States. And so goes another underqualified Bush crony to a major position of power in our country. As predicted, Bush defies logic and is sure to take heat over this nomination. Miers, a skilled lawyer whom Bush once publicly introduced as a "pit bull in size 6 shoes," has never served a day as a judge, and therefore has little in the way of public stands on hot button issues such as abortion. Therefore, we don't know whether or not the appointment will dramatically shift the court to the right as many suspect and fear.

Miers' relationship with Bush dates back to his Texas days, first as his personal lawyer then serving on his 1994 gubernatorial campaign; the 2000 presidential election; and as his top legal counsel, a position she assumed after Alberto Gonzales left to become Attorney General. Honestly, is she truly the best we've got for the most important court in the world? A lawyer with no bench experience whatsoever? Is there no limit to how many of his Texas pals Bush will place in critical positions of power as opposed to naming those most qualified?

Without a clear idea of her positions on abortion, states' rights, church and state, etc, the Democrats are sure to grill the proverbial pants off Miers at her upcoming confirmation hearings. The key question is whether or not her carefully scripted answers will be enough to satisfy the left, or will this become a major showdown complete with filibusters, nuclear options and Senate shutdowns. Only time will tell, as we begin to learn more and more about this mystery woman. Andy

Andy, you may want to remove this post before it begins to look too foolish. According to an AP story in the Washington Post:

"Reid had personally recommended that Bush consider Miers for nomination, according to several sources familiar with the president's consultations with individual senators."

So first you guys cry for collaboration and then when you get it you cry cronyism. Once again, you love to have it both ways.

Drudge is reporting she gave money to Clinton/Gore??? Like I say, I think she is a candidate closer to your fantasies than mine and this post may begin to look foolish.

This is part of Reid's quote from today: "I look forward to the Judiciary Committee process which will help the American people learn more about Harriet Miers, and help the Senate determine whether she deserves a lifetime seat on the Supreme Court.” If you take that as an endorsement, then you're guilty of wishful thinking.

More importantly, what Andy's saying here in his blog is that Miers seems like a pretty weak choice for a lifetime seat, and that there must be many more very qualified, capable people with much more extensive credentials. Sure, Miers is not offensive or chock full of public statements on the issues, but neither is my boss. And she doesn't belong on the court either.

At this point I think is safe to question anything this lieing Bastard ie Bush and his admin. throws at us. This is all coming from the guy that told us he was positive about WMDs in Iraq and gave us totally qualified guys like Horseboy Brownie.

As far as Drudge, do you believe everything you read??? I read his page multiple times daily and on more than one occasion his SO CALLED SCOOPS have proved to be wrong. Always remember the source and that Drudge is a right wing SHILL. Drudge is one step above FOX NEWS. Do you really believe given how vindictive Bush/Rove are that this woman would even be part of the Bush Team if she leaned left..get real???

We haters of the Thuggish GOP like to follow the GOP example and have it our way or the highway also. No objectivity and No Quarter given.
